  • Patent number: 5326953
Abstract: A wire electrical feeding device for an electrical discharge machine. Vibrator assemblies are utilized to feed the wire electrode through electrode guides of the electrical discharge machine. A first vibrator assembly vibrates through a locus which includes a component in the wire feeding direction. The wire electrode is selectively pressed against the first vibrator assembly when the first vibrator assembly is moving in a direction having a component in a wire feeding direction. In the alternative, a second vibrator assembly, which is coupled to the first, clamps the wire electrode when the first vibrator assembly is moving in a direction having a component in the wire feeding direction. The vibrator assembles may each be driven at different vibrational frequencies.

  • Patent number: 5205145
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of producing magnetostriction type torque sensor shafts adapted to detect a change in permeability when a torque is applied. A plurality of shot peening operations are applied to the surface of a torque sensor shaft in such a manner that the diameter of shot particles to be used is decreased each time. This arrangement ensures that the region in which the residual stress is at a maximum and approximately constant lies over a wide range as seen in the direction of the depth from the outermost surface of the shaft and extends from a deep area to an area close to the surface of the shaft. As a result, the hysteresis and nonlinearity of the shaft are improved and it becomes possible to use a wide range of excitation frequencies.

  • Patent number: 5177334
Abstract: A wire cut electric discharge machining apparatus capable of machining a workpiece with a machining solution to produce a work having a desired shape. The work is magnetically attracted to be held and conveyed to a desired position by one of a pair of nozzles through which the machining solution is supplied to an interelectrode gap between the workpiece and a wire-shaped electrode. Since the attraction condition is controlled to be maintained unchanged, it is possible to move and convey the work and the like to the desired position with high accuracy and safety.

  • Patent number: 5029246
Abstract: A wire electrical discharge machining apparatus comprising a nozzle for a machining liquid for jetting the machining liquid from a jet hole, a surrounding member for intercepting the flow of the machining liquid jetted from the nozzle so as to prevent the machining liquid from flowing out to a portion other than the spark gap, and a holding device for holding the surrounding member so as to removably mount the surrounding member on the nozzle and so that the surrounding member does not slip off while mounted. The holding device facilitates both the operation of mounting and dismounting the surrounding member on and from the nozzle and replacement of the surrounding member. Since the surrounding member does not slip off while it is mounted, smooth preparation and working is enabled.

  • Patent number: 5021623
Abstract: A machining-liquid injection nozzle unit for use in a traveling-wire EDM apparatus comprises a pair of nozzles disposed opposite to each other through a workpiece and serving to inject a machining liquid individually toward the workpiece while permitting insertion of a wire electrode therethrough in the axial direction thereof coincident with injection of the machining liquid, and a liquid screening member so shaped as to surround the axis of the wire electrode and attached to at least one of the nozzles. The liquid screening member has a low friction coefficient to the workpiece and serves to diminish the lateral force exerted on the fore end of the upper or lower nozzle due to its sliding motion, hence preventing deterioration of the machining precision. The nozzle unit further includes a piston connected to the liquid screening member and capable of producing a predetermined pressure toward the workpiece by the machining liquid in the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 4938159
Abstract: A detecting electrode is mounted on the path of a thread in a sewing machine. When a cloth is sewn in the sewing machine, a bobbin thread or a needle thread moves spatially against the detecting electrode. An electric signal is obtained on the detecting electrode in response to such movement of the thread. On the other hand, a timing signal generator generates a timing signal synchronous with the vertical movement of the needle in the sewing machine. A discriminator receives the electrical signal from the detecting electrode and the timing signal from the timing signal generator. The discriminator compares the electric signal with a reference signal when it receives the timing signal and outputs a discrimination signal in accordance with the result of the comparison.

  • Patent number: 4933580
Abstract: A magneto-strictive torque sensor for electrically contactlessly detecting a torque applied to a rotary shaft on the basis of a resulting change in the magnetic permeability of the surface of the shaft. Fine dents and retainer areas for retaining residual compressive stress due to the fine dents are formed on the surface of the rotary shaft. According to this arrangement, the process of magnetization resulting from the application of an exciting magnetic field and of the torque to the rotary shaft involves less magnetization due to magnetic domain wall displacement and consists principally of reversible magnetic rotation, with the result of reduced hysteresis in the magnetization process. The reduced hysteresis causes less hysteresis involved in torque detection and higher detection sensitivity, thus resulting in high accuracy of torque detection.

  • Patent number: 4839487
Abstract: A wire electrode for use in wire-cut electrical discharge machining which can be used under a high machining tension and which produces no appreciable deposit on the workpiece it is used to machine. The wire of the invention may be made of an amorphous metal or amorphous alloy composed primarily of iron, cobalt, or copper, and coated on its surface with a layer of a metal such as zinc, magnesium, tin, lead, cadmium or alloys thereof. Alternatively, the wire electrode may be a wire of highly fine crystalline particles fabricated by super-quenching from a pure metal or an alloy of a pure metal in a molten state at a cooling rate of 10.sup.3 to 10.sup.5 .degree.C./sec in a super-quenching process such as a spinning process which forms a wire in a rotating liquid layer.

  • Patent number: 4806721
Abstract: A wire electrode for wire-cut electrical discharge machining includes a wire composed of a core made of one of an amorphous pure metal and an amorphous alloy and a thin crystalline layer serving as a surface of the core. The wire may be coated on its surface with a layer of a material of high electrical conductivity. The amorphous alloy may be Cu-based, Fe-based, or Co-based. The use of an amorphous pure metal or alloy yields a wire electrode of much greater tensile strength than previous wire electrodes, enabling a higher machining speed.

  • Patent number: 4781087
Abstract: A positioning device is disposed along a conveyor path of long towel cloth pulled out by a pull-out device. The positioning device stops the movement of the towel cloth while locking the boundary between a flat fabric section and a subsequent piled fabric section of the towel cloth. A cutting device is disposed downstream relative to the positioning device in the direction of movement of the towel cloth, and a size measuring device is disposed on the opposite upstream side. The positioning device and the cutting device are relatively movable to be spaced from and approached by each other. When the towel cloth is pulled out by the pull-out device, the length of the flat fabric section of the towel cloth is measured by the size measuring device. Based on the measured value, the spacing between the positioning device and the cutting device is adjusted to be equal to a half of the measured value.
