  • Patent number: 8593752
Abstract: A HDD including write components configured to operate within an operating voltage range, charging circuitry comprising a charging capacitor. The charging capacitor includes a higher voltage when charged than the operating voltage range. The HDD also includes pulse circuitry configured to pulse power from the charging circuitry to the write components within the operating voltage range during a controlled shut down of the write components such that remaining data-sector bits are written during the controlled shut down.

  • Patent number: 7488183
Abstract: Embodiments in accordance with the present invention provide a connector for a data storage device having a sufficient strength, and relate to a data storage device using such a connector. In accordance with one embodiment, a data storage device is provided having a circuit board and a connector for making a connection with an external interface. The connector includes bosses disposed on both sides across a center of a direction orthogonal to a direction perpendicular to a main surface of the circuit board and a direction, in which the connector is connected to the interface. The boss is a protrusion that counteracts a force applied to the connector by being embedded in a hole disposed in the circuit board when the connector is disposed in the circuit board.

  • Patent number: 7163422
Abstract: Damage of a connection between a connector and a circuit board on which the connector is mounted is to be prevented at the time of connecting the connector with a corresponding connector on a host side. In one embodiment, an HDD is provided with a serial ATA connector. The connector is mounted on a circuit board. The HDD is also provided with stiffeners for fixing the connector to the circuit board. When the connector moves toward a base at the time of connection thereof to a host-side connector, the stiffeners come into abutment against the base to stop the movement of the connector. As a result, damage of the connection between the connector and the circuit board can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 6327814
Abstract: A hard disk drive has a base bottom surface and a male connector to which at least one protruding pin is attached. The pin has a longitudinal axis that is substantially parallel to the base bottom surface and is exposed toward the base bottom surface. A female connector cover portion covers at least a portion of a plane above a female connector. The plane is substantially parallel to the base bottom surface. The pin of the male connector is inserted into a pin-receiving portion of the female connector by guiding the base bottom surface along and on an insert-guidance surface. The female connector is mounted on the insert-guidance surface and has at least one pin-receiving portion corresponding to the pin of the male connector so that the pin of the male connector can be received. The female connector cover functions as a forcible guide in mounting the hard disk drive to prevent damage at the external interface between the pins of the male connector and its mounting location.
