    Abstract: A paper coating composition comprising a polyvinyl alcohol resin containing acetoacetyl group prepared in the presence of a pigment having a pH of not more than 8. The composition of the invention gives heat sensitive recording paper which has increased color density, excellent plasticizer resistance and low adhesiveness to a thermal print head.
