Patent number: 5321532Abstract: An image processing apparatus has a memory device for storing pixel image data, including both halftone image data such as data of image of a photograph having a gradation, and line image text data such as data, containing characters. The storage is conducted on the basis of blocks each having a predetermined number of pixels. The mean information quantity of the halftone image data per pixel stored in the memory means is not greater than the information quantity of the line image data per pixel stored in the memory means. The halftone image data is compressed on the basis of blocks. Therefore, both the halftone image data and line image data can be stored in a small memory by using common addresses, without causing any degradation of the image quality.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 1993Date of Patent: June 14, 1994Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Hisashi Ishikawa, Hideo Homma, Yoshitake Nagashima, Takashi Saito

Patent number: 5182575Abstract: This disclosure relates to an image forming apparatus in which an image is formed by deflecting a light beam a minute distance in a sub-scanning direction every pixel of image data. By controlling the emission intensity of the light beam utilizing a .gamma. correction, and by controlling the emission time of the light beam utilizing PWM control, the beam spot can be adjusted to control the dot size of the image. Accordingly, the dot density in image formation can be raised by minute deflection in the sub-scanning direction, and the reproducibility of characters and graphics is improved, particularly in the oblique direction. Furthermore, tone reproducibility of multi-tone image data is enhanced by minute deflection in the sub-scanning direction and adjustment of image dot size.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 1990Date of Patent: January 26, 1993Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Motoi Kato, Yoshitake Nagashima

Patent number: 5140424Abstract: An image signal processing apparatus inputs a video signal, delays it by one field using a field memory, multiplies the delayed signal by a value K (K less than 1), adds the output from the multiplication to the input signal and supplies the sum to the field memory. The level of the signal read out from the field memory is compared with a predetermined value, and based on the result of that comparison, the video signal being input is substantially inhibited from being supplied to the adding means. The signal obtained by multiplying the immediately-preceding field signal by k, and the present-field signal, are cyclically added, so that the amplitude can be gradually increased. The comparison inhibits addition of a new field signal when the level of that stored in the field memory has reached a predetermined level.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 1991Date of Patent: August 18, 1992Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Katsuji Yoshimura, Yoshitake Nagashima, Teruo Hieda, Tadayoshi Nakayama
