    Abstract: Disclosed is a novel polyisocyanate which is obtained by reacting at least one diisocyanate selected from the group consisting of an aliphatic diisocyanate and an alicyclic diisocyanate with a polyol having a number average molecular weight of from 3,000 to 30,000 and an average number of hydroxyl groups of from 2 to 3 and which has an allophanate linkage content of from 0.05 to 0.40, in terms of the ratio of the number of allophanate linkages in the polyisocyanate to the sum of the number of the allophanate linkages in the polyisodyanate and the number of urethane linkages in the polyisocyanate. The polyisocyanate of the present invention exhibits a high curing rate and a low viscosity. Further, the polyisocyanate, upon being cured, not only has no surface tack and exhibits a low modulus-in-tension property, but also exhibits a high tensile elongation property without a need for a plasticizer. Therefore, the polyisocyanate of the present invention can be advantageously used as a sealant.

A coating composition comprising the blocked polyisocyanate of the present invention as a curing agent and a polyol as a main agent not only has excellent curability even under low temperature conditions, but is also capable of forming a coating which has excellent impact resistance.

The novel isocyanurate polyisocyanate is excellent not only in compatibility with a polyol having a low polarity but also in solubility in a solvent having a low polarity as well as in a polar solvent. The novel isocyanurate polyisocyanate is very useful as a curing agent for a two-component polyurethane composition, especially a two-component polyurethane coating composition. The two-component polyurethane coating composition of the present invention is capable of providing a coat film having extremely excellent properties.
