    Abstract: In a method of adjusting the balance of the rotor of an AC generator which comprises a pair of magnetic pole cores with magnetic pole claws which are intertwined with each other, the amount and direction of unbalance of the rotor are detected, the amount of unbalance thus detected is divided into two components along the center lines of adjacent magnetic pole claws, a hole is drilled in the outer peripheral surface of the magnetic pole claw on which the larger of the components lies in such a manner that the hole is in alignment with the center line of the magnetic pole claw; and those operations are carried out repeatedly until the balance thus adjusted falls in a predetermined range of allowance, whereby the balance of the rotor is readily adjusted with high accuracy.

    Abstract: A control device for an alternator which can be fabricated as a single hybrid integrated circuit. The output of the alternator which is to be used to drive the field coil of the generator is rectified, and the rectified voltage is voltage divided by two resistors, one of which has a smoothing capacitor connected in parallel therewith. A detection and amplification transistor amplifies the signal at the junction point of the resistors and applies the amplified signal through a Zener diode to the base of a control transistor, the latter driving a switching transistor which controls the amount of current passing through the field coil of the generator.

    Abstract: A charging generator system including a protective circuit which prevents the generator system from overheating when the ambient temperature is extraordinarily high. A protective shorting circuit is coupled between a rectifier output terminal supplying the field coil of the generator and the ground terminal. The protective shorting circuit has a high resistance for normal temperatures and a low resistance for high temperatures, thereby to interrupt the current flow in the field coil when high temperatures occur. In one embodiment, the protective shorting circuit means is implemented with a single thermistor. In another embodiment, a protective transistor is coupled to the field coil, and base current is supplied to the protective transistor when the temperature rises above a predetermined level to thereby shut off the current flow through the field coil under such conditions.

    Abstract: A control apparatus for controlling the power supply to the field coil of a charging generator in which a smoothing capacitor of a low capacitance value is provided to prevent maloperation in the control circuit due to ripples in the output of the generator. A switching transistor controls the current flow through the field coil, while a control transistor controls the switching transistor and a zener diode is provided for energizing the control transistor. A first detection circuit is connected to the smoothing capacitor for detecting the rectified output of the generator and thereby producing a voltage at a first detection point. A second detection circuit produces a voltage at a second detection point which is higher than the first detection point voltage. An amplifying transistor having a base connected to the first detection point energizes the zener diode in accordance with the state of the output of either of the first and second detection circuits.

    Abstract: A charge display circuit for indicating the charging state of an automotive electrical system in which the brightness of the charge display lamp is increased while reducing the average power consumption of the circuit. A rectifier circuit having first and second DC output terminals and an AC input terminal is connected to the output winding assembly of an AC generator with the first DC output terminal connected to one terminal of the battery to charge the battery. A charge display lamp is connected through a key switch between the second DC output terminal and the charging terminal of the battery. A resistor having a positive temperature coefficient is connected between the connecting point of the charge display lamp and second DC output terminal and a ground terminal. The resistor may be implemented as a plurality of resistors having positive temperature coefficients connected in parallel with one another, or as a fixed resistor connected in parallel with a resistor having a positive temperature coefficient.

The output of the stator is rectified and used to charge the vehicle battery. The invention comprises inclusion of field winding current compensation apparatus which varies as a function of temperature to reduce undesired field winding current variations due to temperature which results in improvements of power output and stabilized generator driving torque.

    Abstract: An electric generator for a vehicle has a rotary generator shaft, a generator rotor mounted on the shaft and having a field winding, a bracket surrounding the generator rotor and having the generator shaft rotatably journalled therein, an inductor fixed to the bracket means and having an energizing coil with a plurality of poles, and an induced member rotatably mounted on the rotary generator shaft and opposed to the inductor with a minute gap therebetween, so as to be coupled to the inductor by an electromagnetic force when the energizing coil receives current from the generator. The generator stator is disposed around the generator rotor and has an armature winding with a number of poles exceeding twice the number of poles of the inductor and for generating an AC output usable for supplying power to a load outside the generator. The energizing coil is connected to the armature winding for receiving a part of the AC output for energizing the energizing coil.
