  • Patent number: 7261956
Abstract: A decorative article 1A for a timepiece or the like is provided having a superior aesthetic appearance that can be maintained over a long period of time. The decorative article 1A has a substrate 2 wherein at least part of the surface vicinity is primarily configured from Ti and/or stainless steel, a first coat 3 formed on the substrate 2, and a second coat 4 formed on the first coat 3. The first coat 3 is configured primarily from TiCN, and the combined C content and N content in the first coat 3 is 5 to 30 wt %. The second coat 4 is configured primarily from M (where M is one or more elements selected from Ti, Pt, Pd, and In). The average thickness of the first coat 3 is 1.6 to 5 ?m. The average thickness of the second coat 4 is 0.15 to 0.5 ?m.

  • Publication number: 20050196636
Abstract: A decorative article 1 includes a substrate 2 formed mainly of plastic material, an oxide coating 3 formed mainly of metal oxide material provided on the substrate 2, and a metal coating 4 formed mainly of metal material provided on a surface of the oxide coating 3 on a side opposite the surface of the oxide coating 3 that is adjacent the substrate 2. It is desirable that the oxide coating 3 is formed of a material including at least one material selected from among TiO2 and CrO. It is further desirable that the metal coating 4 is formed of a material including at least one material selected from among Ag, Cr, Au, Al, Ti, Sn, and In. It is still further desirable that the sum of the average thickness of the oxide coating 3 and the average thickness of the metal coating 4 is 0.02 to 2.5 ?m.

  • Publication number: 20050185518
Abstract: An ornamental article 1 has: a plastic material substrate 2; a first film 3 on the substrate 2 and made of a made of a material containing at least one substance selected from the group made of Cr, Ti, compounds of Cr, and compounds of Ti; and a second film provided adjacent to the surface of the first film that is on the opposite side of the side that faces the substrate and made of a material containing at least one metal selected from the group made of Ag and Al. It is preferred that the first film 3 contain at least one substance selected from the group made of Cr, Ti oxide, and Cr oxide. It is also preferred that the sum of the average thicknesses of the first film 3 and second film 4 be from 0.02 to 2.5 micrometers.

  • Publication number: 20030224201
Abstract: A decorative article with a whitish gold color that can retain an exceptionally beautiful appearance over a long period of time, a surface processing method manufacturing such decorative articles, and a timepiece having such decorative parts. The surface processing method includes forming a primary coat on at least part of a surface of base material, and forming a film composed of an Au—Pd—Fe—In alloy containing about 0.1 to about 10 wt % Pd, about 0.1 to about 8 wt % Fe, and about 0.1 to about 10.0 wt % In using a dry plating method. The primary coat preferably is, or includes, a buffer layer for buffering the potential difference between the base material and the film. The film is preferably formed in a dry plating method using multiple targets of different metal compositions.
