    Abstract: A target reaching rotational speed set during a torque phase is set to a value higher than an actual engine rotational speed, the value being higher as one of a vehicle acceleration and an engine rotational speed gradient is larger. That is, as the acceleration is steeper, the target reaching rotational speed is set to a value closer to an upper limit rotational speed or rotational speeds proximate thereto. Thus, a display rotational speed displayed on a tachometer at the end of the torque phase becomes high rotational speed. Accordingly, there is provided a display control device for a vehicle that enables a driver to feel the use of engine performance to the limit.

    Abstract: When an automatic transmission shift start condition is satisfied, an electronic control unit calculates a meter target rotational speed of an engine by adding a correction amount corresponding to the state of a torque converter to a turbine rotational speed corresponding to a post-shift gear stage, and makes a meter display rotational speed follow after the meter target rotational speed, fixes the correction amount to a value obtained at the time of shift start determination, when immobilization conditions including that the shift start condition for a downshift is satisfied and that the engine is driven are satisfied. When actual rotational speed display conditions are satisfied, it can be predicted that differences between an engine rotational speed and a turbine rotational speed before and after shifting are large, and so the electronic control unit sets a current engine rotational speed as the meter target rotational speed or ends the control.

The electronic control unit is configured to: (i) during a shift of the automatic transmission, calculate an estimated engine rotation speed estimated on the basis of a gear position after the shift; (ii) during the shift of the automatic transmission, control the meter such that the meter displays the estimated engine rotation speed; and (iii) when the engine has changed from a driving state to a driven state during the shift or the engine has changed from the driven state to the driving state during the shift, control the meter such that the rotation speed of the engine, displayed on the meter, is changed from the estimated engine rotation speed to the rotation speed of the engine, detected by the rotation sensor.
