    Abstract: A resin erecting lens array is fabricated by forming a coating of silicon dioxide compound on the surface of each of molded resin lens plates, forming an aperture stop for each micro-lens on the surface of each resin lens plate, applying an adhesive on end portions of each resin lens plate, spreading out the adhesive into the space between the resin lens plates being placed on top of one another, aligning an optical axis of each micro-lens on the resin lens plates, inserting heat-melting resin pins into the pin-insert holes of the resin lens plate, and melting at least one end of each resin pin to secure the resin lens plates together.

    Abstract: An image reading apparatus includes a line light source having a light guide plate and red-, green-, and blue-LEDs, for a light transmitting original, and a contact image sensor unit for detecting light from the line light source. The light transmitting original is arranged between the line light source and the contact image sensor unit. The light transmitting original is read by moving the line light source and the contact image sensor unit relative to the light transmitting original. The line light source is moved interlockingly with the contact image sensor unit by the attraction between a magnet provided at both ends of the line light source in the longitudinal direction thereof and a magnet provided at both ends of the contact image sensor unit in the longitudinal direction thereof.

    Abstract: A line-illuminating device 10, 20 having a light guide 11, 21 of which the cross-sectional shape is rectangular and its one comer is chamfered to form an emission plane 11a, 21a is provided, in which the light guide 11, 21 is housed in a light guide casing 12, 22, wherein the chamfer dimension of the emission plane 11a, 21a is more than 40% of a height dimension of the light guide 11, 21. By enlarging the chamfer dimension and broadening the width of the emission plane 11a, 21a, the directional characteristics of the emitted light is expanded. In this manner, it is possible to reduce the extent of decrease in the quantity of illuminating light on a document surface when the document surface is elevated.
