Abstract: A data recording and/or reproducing apparatus for recording, reproducing or editing of video and audio data includes an input processing unit, having an input processing control portion for controlling data inputting to a recording medium, an output processing control portion for controlling data outputting processing for the recording medium and a main controller for comprehensively controlling the input processing unit and the output processing unit. By the input processing controlling portion and the output processing controlling portion, the input processing unit and the output processing unit can be operated independently of each other. On the other hand, the main controller is able to control the input processing controlling portion and the output processing controlling portion so that these two portions will execute a concerted operation.

The AV data is read from the disk array section on the basis of the editing result information to reproduce the edited AV data. A command analysis section receives various linear editing commands generated by a linear editing machine for generating editing information and from which a command is produced to generate the editing result information. Thus, an editing operation using a familiar linear editing machine can be performed.

Abstract: A current detector detects a driving current Im flowing through a light emitting device (laser diode); a temperature sensor is arranged in the vicinity of the light emitting device; a microcomputer is supplied with the outputs of the current detector and temperature sensor; a temperature correction coefficient specific to the light emitting device, obtained based on a driving current value IT1 at a temperature T1 and a driving current value IT2 at a temperature T2 (>T1), is stored in memory; a deterioration threshold current Id for a detected temperature Ti is calculated; and when the deterioration threshold current Id for the detected temperature Ti is exceeded by the detected current, a driver is controlled so as to inhibit the supply of the driving current to the light emitting device. Since the operating temperature also is taken into consideration, deterioration of the light emitting device can be accurately estimated, thereby preventing erroneous recording/reproduction of data.
