Abstract: An image-processing apparatus displays different UI pictures suitable for the resolutions in accordance with aspect ratios 16:9 and 4:3, respectively. UI picture data to form a UI picture is divided into wide-mode parts only used when the wide mode is set, normal-mode parts only used when the normal mode is set, and common parts shared between both modes. The divided parts are stored in a storage device. When the wide mode is set, the predetermined widemode parts and the common-parts are selected. When the normal mode is set, the predetermined normal-mode parts and the common parts are selected. The selected parts are mapped in predetermined positions of an effective display screen (image-processing region). Thus, the UI picture is formed. With this arrangement, the advantage of the increased resolution in accordance with an aspect ratio of 16:9 can be effectively utilized.
