  • Patent number: 6295404
Abstract: An optical fiber array includes a V-groove substrate for housing an uncovered glass fiber section formed at an end portion of an optical fiber contained therein. A lower covered section housing portion houses a covered section of the optical fiber and is formed to be deeper than the V-groove forming portion. An optical fiber is disposed so that the uncovered glass fiber section is housed in the V groove and the covered section is housed in the lower covered section housing portion. A lid substrate is composed of a glass fiber protective portion covering an upper surface of the uncovered glass fiber section and an upper covered section housing portion houses a covered section of the optical fiber. The upper covered section housing portion is formed to be deeper than the glass fiber protective portion and is disposed on the V-groove substrate. A resin is filled in the gaps among the V-groove substrate, the optical fiber, and the lid substrate and cured to give a unitary optical fiber array.

  • Patent number: 6160947
Abstract: An optical transmission member-fixed assembly including a substrate with a receipt groove in which a core wire of an optical transmission member is received, a lid integrated with the substrate, while between the substrate and the lid is provided a receipt space in which at least a covering of the optical transmission member is received, a dimension of the receipt space being greater than that of the receipt groove when viewed in a width direction, wherein an adhesive is filled around the core wire inside the receipt groove for fixing the core wire there, an adhesive is filled around the optical transmission member within the receipt space for fixing the optical transmission member there, a thickness of the adhesive filled around the optical transmission member inside a boundary space zone between the receipt space and the receipt groove is continuously reduced as a location of the boundary space zone is at least near and goes to an opening of the receipt groove at an end opposed to the receipt space.

  • Patent number: 5161908
Abstract: Joined structures are disclosed, which each comprise first and second members having different coefficients of thermal expansion and an intermediate member. The first and second members are joined together through the intermediate member. The intermediate member has yield stress smaller than those of the first and second members, and a tapered portion is formed at an outer peripheral surface of the intermediate member such that the tapered portion has a variable cross-sectional area orthogonal to an axis of the joined members. The area is larger at one end of the tapered portion near one of the first and second members having a smaller coefficient of thermal expansion than the area at the other end of the tapered portion near the other one of the first and second members having a larger coefficient of thermal expansion. A method of joining such first and second members having different coefficients of thermal expansion through the intermediate member is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5028162
Abstract: A metal-ceramic joined, composite body comprises a metallic member and a ceramic member. The metallic member and the ceramic member are provided with a recess and a projection, respectively, and are integrally joined by inserting the projection into the recess. The recess of the metallic member is provided with a stepped portion to increase an inner diameter of the recess at an opening portion thereof, and a brazing metal is interposed at least in a gap between the stepped portion and the projection of the ceramic member. Alternatively, a groove is provided over substantially the entire periphery of the projection of the ceramic member in vicinity of an end of a joined portion between the metallic member and the ceramic member, and a brazing metal is interposed at least between an edge of the groove and the recess of the metallic member. Besides the above, the axial length L.sub.

  • Patent number: 4962002
Abstract: Ceramic-metal composite bodies and a process for the production thereof are disclosed. The ceramic-metal composite body includes a metallic member and a ceramic member which are integrally joined together by fitting a projection formed on the ceramic member to a recess formed in the metallic member. The projection of the ceramic member is fitted and joined into the recess of the metallic member in a vessel of which the inside is kept at an atmosphere having a pressure lower than an atmospheric pressure. The pressure of air remaining in a space left between the recess and the fitted projection is lower than that of the air in the space when the projection is fitted into the recess in the atmospheric pressure.

  • Patent number: 4942999
Abstract: Composite bodies comprise a metallic member and a ceramic member integrally joined together by joining a projection of the ceramic member to a recess of the metallic member. Their joining strength is improved by substantially limiting brazing metal to an interface between the outer peripheral surface of the projection of the ceramic member and the innner peripheral surface of the recess of the metallic member. The joining strength is also improved by forming a groove around the outer periphery of the metallic member at the joined end. The joining strength is also improved by providing a space or an intermediate member between a tip end surface of the projection and a bottom surface of the recess and attaining the relation: ##EQU1## in which G, L.sub.1, .alpha., .alpha.', T.sub.S and T.sub.
