Abstract: A drug delivery device includes a compartment sized to receive a cartridge. The compartment includes a cartridge bay that opens so that a cartridge may be inserted into the cartridge bay and that closes when the cartridge is received by the compartment. The drug delivery device also includes a housing including an expanding assembly. The expanding assembly includes a driver supported from a distal end by a linear stabilizer that includes a bearing configured to push against the housing. The driver is rotated by a motor. The expanding assembly also includes two mid screws threadedly connected to the driver, a plunger driver threadedly connected to the two mid screws, and an anti-rotational guide that prevents rotation of the plunger driver.

Abstract: An injector includes a body, an injection needle movably mounted to the body and a pathway within the body sized for receiving either of a first cartridge or a differently dimensioned second cartridge therein. The pathway includes a coupler mounted at a distal end that is engageable with the first cartridge or the second cartridge for to fluidly connect with the injection needle. At least two adapter collars are mounted within the pathway. A first adapter collar is configured to receive either one of the two cartridges therethrough upon insertion into the pathway, and configured to engage a portion of the first cartridge to stabilize the first cartridge within the pathway. A second adapter collar is also configured to receive either one of the two cartridges therethrough upon insertion into the pathway, but configured to engage a portion of the second cartridge to stabilize the second cartridge within the pathway.

Abstract: In some embodiments a system and method are described for safeguarding a hazard. The hazard, for example a needle point, may be moved between a protected retracted position, an active extended position and/or an intermediate position. Optionally in the retracted position, the hazard may be protected inside a housing. Optionally in the extended position, the hazard may be exposed. Optionally, in the intermediate position the hazard may be partially protected and/or concealed, for example by a shield and/or in an indentation. In some embodiments, compromising a shield causes the hazard to be retracted to the retracted position.

Abstract: A modular drive train is selectively securable within a wearable injector. The drive train includes a chassis and a telescoping driving assembly mounted within the chassis. The driving assembly includes a first shaft rotatable relative to the chassis, and a second shaft connected with the first shaft and axially movable relative thereto. Rotation of the first shaft axially drives the second shaft. The chassis includes one of a bearing and an elastically expandable collar projecting axially forward into the chassis from a rear end thereof, and the first shaft includes the other of the bearing and the elastically expandable collar projecting axially rearwardly from a rear end thereof. The collar is configured to elastically snap over an interference element of the bearing, whereby engagement of the collar with the bearing axially secures the first shaft to the chassis and permits rotation of the first shaft about the bearing.

Abstract: An injector includes an injector housing and a cartridge door movably mounted to the injector housing between a fully closed position and an open position. A latching mechanism is movable between a latched position, locking the cartridge door to the injector housing in the fully closed position thereof, and an unlatched position, unlocking the cartridge door from the injector housing, thereby enabling movement of the cartridge door toward the open position. The latching mechanism is oriented in the unlatched position when the cartridge door is empty and the latching mechanism is configured to move to the latched position solely when a cartridge is present in the cartridge door and the cartridge door is subsequently moved to the fully closed position thereof.

Abstract: A method for visually indicating that a door of a drug delivery device is open is described. A closing force to move the door is received. Then, it is detected that the door is not closed. A biasing element pushes the door to a perceptibly open position with an opening force when the door reaches the last 30 degrees of rotation of toward closure or when the door reaches the last 30% of range of movement during the rotation of the door. The perceptibly open position of the door is indicated relative to a drug delivery device housing.

Abstract: A liquid transfer device includes a vial adapter that receives a vial. The vial adapter includes a vial spike that punctures a vial stopper of the vial and defines a vial spike lumen. The liquid transfer device also includes an intravenous (IV) port that receives a port spike of an infusion set. The liquid transfer device also includes a connector body including a vial adapter lumen in fluid communication with the vial spike lumen, a barrel connected to the IV port, and an IV spike including a central wall. The central wall defines a first IV spike lumen in fluid communication with the vial adapter lumen and a second IV spike lumen in fluid communication with the IV port. The first IV spike lumen and the second IV spike lumen are separated by the central wall.

Abstract: A drug delivery device, including: housing, wherein said housing defines an opening and a chamber for a drug cartridge; a movable door connected to the housing, having a range of movement between a fully open position and a closed position, wherein the door blocks access to said opening when the door is in said closed position; a biasing element connected to the housing or the door, wherein the biasing element is positioned to interfere with the movement of the door by applying an opening force to open the door when the range of movement of the door is near the closed position, thus defining an exclusion zone; and a locking mechanism between the door and the housing, the locking mechanism applies a locking force on the door greater and in an opposite direction to the force applied by the biasing element.

Abstract: An injector is configured to receive therein a cartridge containing a substance to be dispensed. The injector includes an injector housing and an injector door movably mounted to the injector housing between a fully closed position and a fully open position. The injector door is initially locked in an at least partially closed position preventing insertion of the cartridge into the injector. The injector further includes a controller configured to conduct an initial self-test on operability of at least one component of the injector. The self-test has a single pass or fail outcome, wherein the injector door is unlocked and enabled to be moved into the fully open position, to enable insertion of the cartridge into the injector, solely upon achievement of the self-test pass outcome.

Abstract: An injector has a cartridge door movable between a fully closed position and a fully open position. A power supply is employed to power at least one power-operated component of the injector. A power supply circuit electrically connects the power supply with the at least one power-operated component. An electrically insulated arm is movable from a first state, in which the electrically insulated arm electrically disconnects the power supply from the circuit, to a second state, in which the electrically insulated arm connects the power supply with the circuit to provide power to the at least one power-operated component. The insulated arm is coupled to the cartridge door and initially positioned in the first state thereof in the fully closed position of the cartridge door, whereby movement of the cartridge door out of the fully closed position toward the fully open position moves the arm to the second state thereof.

Abstract: A liquid transfer device includes a monolithic trifurcated connector body defining a barrel at a first end thereof, a single IV spike at a second end thereof and a vial adapter lumen at a third end thereof. An IV port is connected to the barrel. The single IV spike has a first IV spike lumen fluidly connected at a proximal end thereof with only the vial adapter lumen via the trifurcated connector body and a second IV spike lumen fluidly connected at a proximal end thereof with only the IV port via the trifurcated connector body, thereby separating fluid communication between the vial adapter and the single IV spike from fluid communication between the IV port and the single IV spike.

Abstract: A system for inserting a pharmaceutical cartridge into a delivery device is described. The cartridge can be inserted in an arbitrary orientation and the system reorients the cartridge to a locked orientation. For example, a driver applies a torque to the cartridge to cause the reorienting. The torque rotates the cartridge around an axis thereof until the cartridge reaches the locked orientation. When the cartridge reaches the locked orientation, an interference element on the cartridge interlocks with a complementary interference element on the delivery device to lock the cartridge in the locked orientation. Once the cartridge is locked in the second orientation, the torque causes discharge the pharmaceutical.

Abstract: An injector includes a housing and an activation button assembly movably mounted thereto and translatable from an unactuated position to an actuated position. A cartridge door is configured to receive therein a cartridge containing a substance to be dispensed, and is movably mounted to the injector housing between open and closed positions. A deflectable interference member is mounted within the injector housing and, in a resting position, blocks movement of the activation button assembly from the unactuated to the actuated position thereof. The activation button assembly is configured to activate the injector when in the actuated position, and is movable from the unactuated position to the actuated position solely upon deflection of the interference element out of the resting position thereof. The cartridge door, when in the closed position thereof and having the cartridge received therein, deflects the interference element out of the resting position thereof.

Abstract: An injector includes a housing, a needle hub movably mounted within the housing and an injection needle supported by the hub. The hub and the needle are axially translatable between retracted and injection positions. A needle shield, having an aperture, is movably connected to the housing between first and second positions. The needle extends through the needle shield aperture in the injection position of the needle and the first position of the needle shield, and the needle is blocked from extending through the needle shield aperture in the second position of the needle shield. When the needle shield is in the second position and the hub and the needle are in the injection position, the needle shield covers the tip of the needle and subsequent movement of the needle shield toward the first position axially translates the hub and the needle back toward the retracted position.
