Patent number: 5431637Abstract: A suction catheter is disclosed having a tubular, bellowed flexible proximal or patient contacting end creating a rigidity to not permit bending and twisting during the catheter's insertion and operation, a flexibility to prevent injuring a patient's trachea or bronchial tube and having a good suction efficiency. A lumen leads to openings in the catheter made at the bellowed proximal end that fluidly connects the lumen with the exterior of the catheter.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1992Date of Patent: July 11, 1995Assignee: Sherwood Medical CompanyInventors: Yosuke Okada, Nobuaki Suzuki, Curtis D. Patent number: 5354518Abstract: A method of manufacture of a fiberscopic catheter having a tightly fitted optical glass fiber bundle received within an internal lumen of the catheter. The lumen for receiving the optical glass fiber bundle is heated and expanded under internal fluid pressure. The catheter and lumen are then cooled with the lumen still under the internal fluid pressure. After cooling, the fluid pressure is released and the lumen retains its expanded condition. An optical glass fiber bundle is inserted into the expanded lumen to a predetermined position within the catheter. The catheter and lumen are reheated to contract the expanded diameter of the lumen about the optical glass fiber bundle to provide a fiberscopic catheter having a tightly fitted fiber optic bundle within the catheter.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 1993Date of Patent: October 11, 1994Assignee: Sherwood Medical CompanyInventors: Yosuke Okada, Yumiko Suzuki

Patent number: 5273523Abstract: A double lumen gastric tube including a valve to prevent gastric reflux or leakage through the vent lumen thereof. The gastric tube also includes an adaptor which allows fluid injection through the tube without removing the valve. The valve allows the passage of air into the vent lumen when atmospheric pressure exceeds stomach pressure. When stomach pressure exceeds atmospheric pressure the valve prevents flow of fluid through the tube. The adaptor allows fluid to be injected into the vent lumen through the valve.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 1992Date of Patent: December 28, 1993Assignee: Sherwood Medical CompanyInventors: Nobuaki Sozuki, Yosuke Okada

Patent number: 5167637Abstract: A hemostasis valve membrane for use with a catheter introducer having a cover and a frame is disclosed. The valve membrane is inserted between the cover and the frame of the catheter introducer body. The valve membrane is a disc made of a soft elastic material. The disc has opposed faces, at least one of which has a concave shape extending into the disc. A plurality of slits extend into the disc from the faces so that slits extending into the disc from one face do not touch slits extending into the disc from the opposed face. A needle hole connects the slits extending into the disc from one face with the slits extending into the disc from the opposed face.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1991Date of Patent: December 1, 1992Assignee: Sherwood Medical CompanyInventors: Yosuke Okada, Hideyuki Makino

Patent number: 4752286Abstract: This invention provides an improvement in a method of surgically treating an esophageal varix utilizing an endoscope wherein air under pressure is directed to expand a patient's esophagus and wherein the varix is located, punctured and injected with a sclerosing material. The subject improvement involves directing a dual-lumen balloon tube through the patient's esophagus, the dual-lumen balloon tube including a primary suction lumen and a secondary inflation lumen. After the vatix is located, punctured and injected with sclerosing material, the balloon tube is partially withdrawn to position the balloon adjacent the varix and fluid under pressure is directed through the secondary lumen to inflate the balloon to thereby compress the varix to assist in stemming the flow of blood therefrom. Suction is then applied to the primary lumen to relieve pressure in the patient's stomach.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1985Date of Patent: June 21, 1988Assignee: Sherwood Medical CompanyInventor: Yosuke Okada
