  • Patent number: 6373661
Abstract: A magnetic disk device and a flying slider, having a magnetic head for reading and writing information, are disclosed. The magnetic head slider includes flying pads of a stepped configuration for flying the slider, and each of the flying pads has a flat surface portion and a step surface recessed from this flat surface portion through a microscopic step. Microscopic projections are formed on the step surface. The height of the microscopic projections are higher than or substantially equal to the height of the step. With this construction, the slider is less liable to be turned to lean forward because of the provision of the microscopic projections, and beside a front edge of the step surface will not damage a magnetic disk surface. A variation of the flying height can be reduced by a negative pressure produced at the rear side of each microscopic projection. Therefore, there can be provided the magnetic disk device having high reliability and a large capacity.

  • Patent number: 5548454
Abstract: In the information recording disk, the positioning signal of the information convertor is provided permanently, as a change in shape or material, to the front and reverse surfaces of the disk substrate and their eccentric distances from the center position is made to be smaller than half the repeating unit length of the positioning signal of the information convertor in the radial direction. The start position of the positioning signal in the circumferential direction is preferably made to be coincident on the front and reverse surfaces of the disk substrate within 10 .mu.m. The position reference for aligning the position in the radial direction or the position reference for aligning the rotation angle position in the circumferential direction is preferably disposed on the inner diameter portion or outer diameter portion of the disk substrate, respectively, and these position references can be accomplished by disposing at least one notch on the inner or outer peripheral edge portion of the disk substrate.

  • Patent number: 5020041
Abstract: A magneto-optical memory apparatus has an optical head for applying a light to a substrate of a recording medium such as a magneto-optical disk having a magneto-optical recording film formed on the substrate and continuously applying a high power laser beam in a record mode, and a floating magnetic head arranged on the opposite side of the recording medium to the side of the optical head and adapted to be kept at a substantially constant distance from the recording medium by an air pressure created between the magnetic head and the recording medium by the movement of the recording medium, for applying, in the record mode, a magnetic field which is polarity-inverted or intensity-modulated according to information to be recorded, to the magneto-optical recording film.

  • Patent number: 4721646
Abstract: A magnetic recording medium of the present invention comprises: a substrate; a magnetic film formed on this substrate; and a nonmagnetic reinforcing agent mixed into the magnetic film and projected from the surface of the magnetic film. Assuming that the minimum flying height of the magnetic head which is lifted up over the magnetic film is h, a projection height T of the nonmagnetic reinforcing agent from the surface of the magnetic film satisfies the relation of h/4<T<h. By virtue of this, even if an amount of mixture of the nonmagnetic reinforcing agent which becomes a cause of the generation of the noises is reduced, the necessary durability can be obtained.
