    Abstract: A facsimile system comprising a facsimile storage and exchange device for temporarily storing an image signal received together with destination data, and for transmitting the image signal in accordance with the destination data. The facsimile storage and exchange device also includes an abnormality detecting unit for detecting an abnormality occurring therein and a failure reporting unit which transmits, as an image signal, data on an abnormality, if any, detected by the abnormality detecting unit to a monitoring facsimile unit provided separately from the facsimile storage and exchange device.
