Abstract: Illicit acquisition of a medium can be detected easily. A banknote pay-in/pay-out device 10 of an ATM 1 counts the number of banknotes of each denomination based on classification information for the banknotes prior to dispensing and after dispensing when forgotten banknotes arise in pay-out processing, thereby respectively generating pre-dispensing classification information N1 and post-dispensing classification information N2. The banknote pay-in/pay-out device 10 can thereby easily detect a change in the number of banknotes of each denomination between prior to dispensing and after dispensing by comparing the pre-dispensing classification information N1 against the post-dispensing classification information N2, and can facilitate the workload of a member of staff of a financial institution or the like when illicit activity has taken place.

The data processing device includes a data acquisition section that acquires, in the local network, serial numbers obtained from banknotes read by a cash processing terminal configuring the cash processing terminal cluster, and results of recognition of the banknotes by the cash processing terminal; a storage controller that associates the serial numbers and the recognition results with each other and stores the serial numbers and the recognition results in a storage section; and a comparison section that, in cases in which the serial numbers and banknote recognition results have been acquired from any cash processing terminal configuring the cash processing terminal cluster, compares the banknote recognition results against the stored recognition results associated with the serial numbers.

When the discriminator discriminates a bill, it determines whether or not the same identification information as the identification information of the bill is stored in the identification information storage. If the same identification information is stored, the customer serving section feeds the bills to the discriminator according to intermittent feeding. This prevents any bill from being undiscriminated.
