Abstract: An apparatus and a method for configuring security for connection between a portable terminal supporting a Wireless-Fidelity (Wi-Fi) function and an Access Point (AP) are provided. More particularly, an apparatus and a method are provided for preventing access failure caused by an access request of a portable terminal while an AP of an un-configured mode, which is completing security setup using a Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) function, is rebooted. The apparatus includes an AP for providing a terminal with a time taken to reboot after configuring security information based on a WPS function in an un-configured mode, wherein the terminal sends a request to access the AP after the rebooting has completed by determining the time taken to reboot received from the AP of the un-configured mode.

In the method, a query is performed on a specific Domain Name Server (DNS) via a connected Access Point (AP). When a response to the query on the specific DNS is received, a connection to a specific node is attempted via the connected AP. When the connection to the specific node is successful, a valid WiFi connection is determined. The WiFi connection is maintained. Therefore, a WiFi apparatus is allowed to connect to only a valid AP, so that convenience is provided to a user and the WiFi apparatus is prevented from wasting power.

A method of transmitting a message includes generating a thread ID for supporting a thread function, generating a message including the thread ID, and transmitting the generated message. A method of receiving a message includes detecting whether a received message includes a thread ID, searching a message storage to detect messages therein having the same thread ID when it is detected that the received message includes a thread ID, and grouping contents of the detected messages having the same thread ID, and displaying the grouped contents. Thus, contents of messages during a messaging dialogue can be manifestly arranged and discerned.
