  • Patent number: 7295521
Abstract: The present invention relates to a directional flooding method in a wireless sensor network. Transfer of a packet between respective sensor nodes and a sink node in a wireless sensor network is made with the directivity. To this end, when the packet is transmitted from the sensor nodes to the sink node, only the sensor nodes having a minimum hop count for the sink node are involved in transmission of the packet. Meanwhile, if the packet is sent from the sink node to the sensor nodes within a given destination area, after the packet reaches a corresponding destination area, only sensor nodes located within the destination area transmit the packet. The present invention has an effect that it can improve energy consumed on average and a total number of packets transmitted when transmitting the packets in a wireless sensor network compared to a conventional simple flooding method.

  • Patent number: 7167732
Abstract: A method for enhanced power saving on DCF based wireless networks is disclosed. The method divides a beacon transmitting section in an Announcement Traffic Indication Message (hereinafter, referred to as “ATIM”) window period defined by IEEE standard 802.11 according as there is a data packet to be sent or not and allows a terminal that has received the beacon to go to a doze state immediately according to beacon reception timing, thereby preventing unnecessary power consumption.

  • Patent number: 7020469
Abstract: A method for power saving routing in wireless networks is disclosed. The present invention calculates a distance to a destination node to select and estimate candidate nodes so as to reduce the amount of calculations in the event of routing. Furthermore, the invention repeats the algorithm by optimum value n so that accessibility to the destination node can be obtained. This enables more efficient routing.

  • Publication number: 20060047829
Abstract: Provides methods and apparatus for offering tiered application services for access to network services on a pay-per-use basis in public access networks. Using personal devices, the user can access different tiers of application services on demand, without the need of any preexisting association, e.g., subscription, with the service provider of the wireless access system. Such on-demand access is obtained by providing a variety of personal identifiers, such as a credit card number or frequent flier identification. Moreover, the service offering allows a user through a personal device to modify, enhance or degrade the currently established tier of application services during the lifetime of the user's association with the access network. A network-level enforcement mechanism at access points within the access network ensures user access only to application services within the application service tier that they have paid for, and deny service accesses not within that tier.

  • Publication number: 20050254472
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for a hybrid service discovery adapting between push-based and pull-based schemes in a mobile ad-hoc network and a system thereof. The method includes periodically transmitting a first control packet for providing service information from a service provider that is capable of providing a service to nodes located in a specified advertisement zone, transmitting a second control packet requesting the service from a service demander to one or more nodes in a network, and transmitting a third control packet including path information of the service provider if at least one of the nodes located within the advertisement zone and the service provider receives the second control packet. The method and the system can reduce the amount of control packet transmission and minimize an end-to-end delay.

  • Publication number: 20030140119
Abstract: The invention provides methods, apparatus and systems that allow devices to enter and leave a local domain often and still allow consumers of the service provided by the device to easily detect its availability. To achieve this, an example embodiment locates a “service discovery proxy” in the local domain. On receiving a service discovery request from a remote inquirer, the proxy resolves the service request based on those services that are determined to be dynamically available in the local domain at that time. The proxy resolves the incoming service request within its local domain by using any method for local service discovery. The response to the service discovery received from the local devices is customized by the service discovery proxy, wherein the customization includes formatting, filtering, aggregating, and/or selecting particular responses. The proxy then sends the customized response back to the remote inquirer.
