  • Patent number: 7062265
Abstract: An architecture to support service features for wireless calls in a wireless telecommunication system is disclosed. Service feature administration for a wireless terminal is provided by a packet data feature server in a home network that is connected to a packet data network. During call setup on behalf of the wireless terminal, the feature server is accessed via the packet data network to manage service features that are specific to the wireless terminal.

  • Patent number: 6724732
Abstract: Computers that exchange data over communication networks frequently wait for responses to messages and therefor use timers to control the amount of time that the computer will wait for a response to a command issued over a network. Communication network responsiveness varies as traffic loading on the network changes. Fixed-value timers that don't take network loading into account can inadvertently terminate communications if a response is not timely received. Varying or adjusting data communication timers according to data network responsiveness can prevent erroneous data communication session termination.

  • Patent number: 6304648
Abstract: A telecommunication system for establishing a conference call between various participants to the call communicating via multimedia communication devices. A call participant identification system detects the presence of voice signals made from a speaking call participant during the conference call. Call participant identification information is associated with the voice signals generated by the speaking call participant. A visual indication identifying the call participant is established at other multimedia communication devices connected with the call to identify the speaking call participant to the other participants of the conference call upon the detection of the voice signals from the speaking call participant.

  • Patent number: 6198738
Abstract: A method and apparatus for completing intra-data-network calls and calls between a public switched telephone network (PSTN) and a data network. For the case of an Internet data network, an Internet Phone Register is provided to identify the User Location Service (ULS) server that stores the temporary Internet Protocol Address (TIPA) of a called terminal. Advantageously, the TIPA of any called terminal can then be readily obtained by querying that ULS server.

  • Patent number: 6058113
Abstract: A method for establishing and maintaining data communication between communication devices including at least one sender communication device and a receiving communication device of a multicast group which are interconnected by a communications network of switching nodes that involves determining when there is a change in the state of the multicast group. The receiving communication device normally maintains a resource reservation in response to data being substantially continuously received at the switching nodes unless there is a change in the state of the multicast group. Upon determination of the state change in the multicast group, the inventive method changes the resource reservation even while data is being continually received at the switching nodes.

  • Patent number: 5835564
Abstract: A method for determining the operational status of base stations deployed in a cellular telecommunications system comprises continually sharing operational status data with adjacent base stations in accordance with a primary diagnostic protocol. Upon non-receipt of an operational status message, a supplemental diagnostic protocol is executed to identify a malfunctioning base station. The failed status of an identified malfunctioning base station is extended to a mobile switching center over an established data interface. In some circumstances, the mobile switching center extends radio allocation information to a functional base station so that the functional base station may perform temporary administrative services for the adjacent failed base station until permanent repairs can be made.

  • Patent number: 5771283
Abstract: A method for delivering enhanced caller identification (ID) service including geographic location information comprises initializing an originating switch with geographic identification data (GID). The GID is stored in each switch module memory, and is accessed by the originating switch each time a calling party initiates a call to a called party. If the called party subscribes to caller ID service, the calling's party directory number, and the GID associated with the switch is delivered to the called party as part of caller ID service so that the true geographic location of the caller can be ascertained.
