  • Patent number: 6987746
Abstract: The frame words of the preferred embodiment are especially suitable for frame synchronization and/or channel estimation. By adding the autocorrelation and cross-correlation functions of frame words, double maximum values equal in magnitude and opposite polarity at zero and middle shifts are obtained. This property can be used to slot-by-slot, double-check frame synchronization timing, single frame synchronization and/or channel estimation and allows reduction of the synchronization search time. Further, the present invention allows a simpler construction of a correlator circuit for a receiver. A frame synchronization apparatus and method using an optimal pilot pattern is used in a wide band code division multiple Access (W-CDMA) next generation mobile communication system.

  • Patent number: 6891815
Abstract: There is provided a frame synchronization method using the correlation characteristic of a pilot having a minimum side lobe coefficient when the chip rate of the physical channel up-link or down-link is 3.8 Mcps in a W-CDMA mobile communication system. The frame synchronization method using an optimal pilot pattern, including the steps of receiving code sequences with the slot length of (2l+1) for a radio frame according to an arbitrary chip rate; arranging the received code sequences corresponding to the slot length for the radio frame and performing auto correlation according to a reception location of the code sequences, and simultaneously, arranging the code sequences corresponding to the slot length for the radio frame and performing cross correlation according to a reception location of the code sequences; and observing the correlation results, to detect frame synchronization.

  • Patent number: 6791960
Abstract: The frame synchronization words of the preferred embodiment are especially suitable for frame synchronization confirmation. By adding the autocorrelation functions of shaded frame synchronization words, double maximum values equal in magnitude and opposite polarity at zero and middle shifts are obtained. This property can be used to slot-by-slot and double-check frame synchronization timing and reduce the synchronization search time. Further, the present invention allows a simpler construction of a correlator circuit for a receiver.

  • Patent number: 6442189
Abstract: The present invention is to provide a phase offset calculation method of binary code being used in a mobile communication system, a binary code error detection method for detecting errors occurred in the received binary code by using the phase offset of the binary code and a synchronization method of binary code greatly reducing an acquisition time by using the error detection. The present invention to calculate the phase offset of binary code includes a step of receiving the binary code Ti(C) shifting with a period n, a step of calculating a binary code weight accumulation value by selecting the accumulator function weight value l of the binary code and then by applying the weight value to said binary code, a step of obtaining a phase shift value by shifting the phase of the binary code weight accumulator value, and a step of calculating the phase offset of the binary code by performing an operation of modulo n on said binary code weight accumulator value.

  • Publication number: 20010008523
Abstract: A method for generating and transmitting optimal cell (base station) identification codes in a W-CDMA mobile communication system is disclosed. In the present invention, the cell identification codes are generated using Hadamard code and bi-orthogonal code. To optimize performance in a soft handover mode, cell identification codes are generated based on at least one of Hadamard codes and bi-orthogonal codes and then effectively transmitted through an uplink channel. Also, considering dynamic allocation depending on the size of an active set, optimal SSDT cell identifier codes having a maximized minimum Hamming distance are generated and then effectively transmitted through the uplink channel.
