  • Publication number: 20080020012
Abstract: The subject invention concerns non-degradable three dimensional porous collagen scaffolds and coatings. These scaffolds can be prepared around sensors for implantation into a body. A specific embodiment of the invention concerns implantable glucose sensors. Sensors comprising a collagen scaffold of the invention have improved biocompatibility by minimizing tissue reactions while stimulating angiogenesis. The subject invention also concerns methods for preparing collagen scaffolds of the invention. The subject invention also concerns sensors that have a collagen scaffold of the invention around the exterior of the sensor.

  • Publication number: 20070120206
Abstract: Provided is a semiconductor optical device having a current-confined structure. The device includes a first semiconductor layer of a first conductivity type which is formed on a semiconductor substrate and includes one or more material layers, a second semiconductor layer which is formed on the first semiconductor layer and includes one or more material layers, and a third semiconductor layer of a second conductivity type which is formed on the second semiconductor layer and includes one or more material layers. One or more layers among the first semiconductor layer, the second semiconductor, and the third semiconductor layer have a mesa structure. A lateral portion of at least one of the material layers constituting the first semiconductor layer, the second semiconductor layer, and the third semiconductor layer is recessed, and the recess is partially or wholly filled with an oxide layer, a nitride layer or a combination of them.

  • Publication number: 20070053669
Abstract: A recording apparatus for and a method of handling an error occurring when recording information on an optical disc. An existing ECC block on the optical disc is read in response to a first record command provided by a superior apparatus. If an error occurs in the reading of the existing ECC block, an error occurrence report is provided to the superior apparatus which formulates a second record command based on the error occurrence report and the information is recorded in another ECC block on the optical disc according to the second record command.

  • Publication number: 20050118741
Abstract: Provided is a method for fabricating a semiconductor optical device that can be used as a reflecting semiconductor mirror or an optical filter, in which two or more types of semiconductor layers having different etch rates are alternately stacked, at least one type of semiconductor layers is selectively etched to form an air-gap structure, and an oxide or a nitride having a good heat transfer property is deposited so that the air gap is buried, whereby it is possible to effectively implement the semiconductor reflector or the optical filter having a high reflectance in a small period because of the large index contrast between the oxide or the nitride buried in the air gap and the semiconductor layer.

  • Publication number: 20050050809
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a vibration control apparatus using a water tank, which is installed at the uppermost floor of a tall building, the water tank being formed at the inner wall surface thereof with horizontal protrusions. In order to improve a vibration attenuation rate in a horizontal direction within the water tank, the water tank is installed with vertical wire meshes therein, and the horizontal protrusions serve to improve a vibration attenuation rate in a vertical direction. According to the present invention, it is possible to improve serviceability of a tall building, and to reduce maintenance and installation costs thereof.
