  • Patent number: 9513433
Abstract: An apparatus for generating long-period gratings in an optical fiber is disclosed herein. The apparatus includes an intensity adjusting unit and a period adjusting unit that come into contact with a portion of an optical fiber where gratings will be generated. The intensity adjusting unit includes a press part configured to press the portion of the optical fiber where gratings will be generated against a grating generating unit, and an intensity adjusting mechanism configured to apply force to the press part. The period adjusting unit includes a period adjusting mechanism configured to selectively increase and decrease the length of the grating generating unit.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: December 6, 2016
    Assignee: KS PHOTONICS INC.
    Inventor: Young Kie Kim
  • Patent number: 9515735
Abstract: A device for controlling polarization of an optical fiber and a method of controlling the polarization of an optical fiber using the same are disclosed herein. The device includes optical fiber supports, an optical fiber holder, and an optical fiber curvature changing unit. The optical fiber supports receive an optical fiber, and support both ends of the optical fiber. The optical fiber holder includes an optical fiber guide element that guides the optical fiber, drawn out of the optical fiber supports, through a path. The optical fiber curvature changing unit is located between the optical fiber and the optical fiber guide element, and changes the curvature of the optical fiber by exerting external force onto the optical fiber.

  • Patent number: 6233371
Abstract: An optical fiber polarization controller which has compact size by employing wave plates made of short sections of a first optical fiber having inherent birefringence such as a polarization maintaining optical fiber. In the control of the polarization state of input light, a second optical fiber, for example a single mode fiber, connected to the first optical fiber is twisted using fixing knobs, thereby rotating the birefringence axis of the first optical fiber with respect to the second optical fiber.
