  • Patent number: 7725649
Abstract: A method of recording record signals sequentially transmitted from a host on an optical recording medium. The method includes receiving record data sequentially transmitted from the host and storing the received record data in a buffer if a predetermined environment for a data recording apparatus which records data on an optical recording medium to record the received data is set, building information on the optical recording medium using record data to be recorded in a lead-in region of the optical recording medium among the record data stored in the buffer, and signal-processing the record data stored in the buffer and sequentially recording the signal-processed data on the lead-in region, a program region, and a lead-out region of the optical recording medium.

  • Patent number: 7110330
Abstract: A sub-code providing method that provides correct sub-code data when sub-code data is requested from a host when a reproduction mode is performed in an optical disc drive. In a method providing sub-code data to a host computer in an optical disc drive formed so that data from a pick-up is reproduced through a buffer, the method includes the operations of setting sub-code data whenever data of a predetermined unit is output from the buffer, and transmitting the set sub-code data to the host computer when the sub-code data is requested from the host computer during the reproduction mode. Therefore, it is possible to provide more accurate sub-code data to the host computer and to thus prevent the reproduction of unnatural screen during operations such as automatic reproduction or game CD reproduction.

  • Publication number: 20040081427
Abstract: An optical recording medium copying apparatus and method provides applying power to two compact disc rewritable (CDRW) drives and copying data recorded on a first optical recording medium in one of the CDRW drives to a second optical recording medium in the other CDRW drive, without a PC system or a recording application program. A transmitting optical recording medium drive transmits data recorded on the first optical recording medium when both a predetermined power and a copying signal are applied to the transmitting drive. A receiving optical recording medium drive receives the data from the transmitting drive when both a predetermined power and a copying signal are applied to the receiving drive, and records the received data on the first optical recording medium. Communication lines between the transmitting and receiving drives are used to transmit data recorded on the first optical recording medium to the second optical recording medium.

  • Patent number: 6636463
Abstract: A data compensating method and apparatus for compensating a block from which data cannot be read due to the presence of a scratch or dust when reproducing an optical disk are provided. The data compensating method includes the steps of: (a) setting a first block region for storing a block of data currently being reproduced and a second block region for storing the previous block of data, and reproducing the disk according to a read command; (b) determining the type of data block from a header in a sought block when the number of seek operations is greater than a predetermined value in reproducing the disk in step (a); (c) substituting an address of a block of data in the second block region, corresponding to a data block determined in step (b), for an address requested by a host; and (d) transmitting to the host the block of data in the second block region substituted in step (c).

  • Patent number: 6345370
Abstract: A method for debugging an error occurring while a device driver of a computer system recognizes a peripheral device such as a digital video disk ROM (DVD-ROM). The method includes the steps of storing a plurality of commands which are to be transferred from the device driver to the peripheral device through an advanced technology attachment packet interface (ATAPI) bus for checking a status of the peripheral device in a memory; executing a plurality of commands while checking whether an error occurs in step by step to identify a command which results in an error; and debugging the error depending on the command which results in the error. As a result, an error occurred during installation of the DVD-ROM drive in the computer system may be debugged simply and effectively.

  • Patent number: 5890208
Abstract: A CD-ROM disk drive receives commands from a host computer. In order to speed up the data accessing response time of the CD-ROM, a method is provided for rearranging the order in which the commands received from the host computer access data contained in sequentially enumerated blocks on the CD-ROM in the disk drive. According to the disclosed method, three queues are set up for holding the logical block addresses of blocks which are to be accessed by the received commands. An execution queue stores addresses of disk blocks to be accessed by a currently executed command. A wait queue stores addresses of disk blocks to be accessed by the next command after the commands accessing addresses of disk blocks stored in the execution queue. A free queue stores addresses of disk blocks to be accessed by the continuously transmitted commands.

  • Patent number: 5761168
Abstract: A method for testing CD-ROM drives is disclosed. A plurality of CD-ROM drives are connected to a computer and then CD-ROMs having the same contents are loaded in each drive. The data read out from the CD-ROM loaded in a CD-ROM drive is stored and the stored data and the data read out from a CD-ROM loaded in another CD-ROM drive is compared to check the operation of each drive.
