Abstract: An automatic tilt compensator senses and automatically compensates for a disc deformation while an optical recording and/or reproducing apparatus operates. The automatic tilt compensator of an optical recording/reproducing apparatus has a disc deformation detecting section for sensing a deformation direction and a deformation degree of a disc seated and rotated on a disc rotation unit of a deck base and for outputting a predetermined signal, and a level adjustment section for elevating and lowering a pair of guide shafts movably supporting a pickup unit on the deck base while being operated by the signal from the disc deformation detecting section, to thereby adjust the level of the pickup unit corresponding to the deformation degree of the disc. According to this, the level of the pickup unit according to the deformation direction or the deformation degree of the disc can be automatically adjusted while the optical recording/reproducing device is operated.

Abstract: An adaptor includes a sensor hole to be open/closed, and a method and an apparatus drive the adaptor. The adaptor includes at least one sensor hole determining the size of a disc received in an adaptor body which is received via a disc holder. The disc holder includes an elastic press extended therefrom and elastically support the disc, preventing a movement of the disc until the disc holder is inserted into the adaptor body. Further, a release is disposed on the adaptor body to release the disc from the elastic press when the disc holder is inserted into the adaptor body. A method for driving the adaptor includes determining whether the sensor hole is open; and determining the type of device inserted into a disc drive. The type of drive inserted into the disc drive is determined by the adaptor accommodating an 8-cm disc when the sensor hole is open, while a cartridge accommodates a 12-cm disc when the sensor hole is closed.

Abstract: A cartridge having a sensor hole to be opened/closed and a method and an apparatus for driving the same. To improve a problem that a cartridge receiving a DVD-RAM disc which has been once withdrawn therefrom performs the recording process under the same conditions as a bare disc, the disclosed cartridge has a unit for flexibly opening/closing the sensor hole in accordance with a result of a defect check, so that information processing process is greatly accelerated.

Abstract: A spindle device of a disc drive, including a self-compensating dynamic balancer. The spindle device includes a turntable on which a disc is to be placed, a spindle motor to rotate the turntable, a moving body to compensate for the eccentric center of gravity due to the asymmetry of the disc, and a self-compensating dynamic balancer having a race in which a moving body moves. The self-compensating dynamic balancer includes an annular race encircling the rotational center of the turntable and having a predetermined depth and width, and an annular moving body placed in the race, the annular moving body has an inner diameter wider than that of the race and an outer diameter narrower than that of the race, so that the eccentric center of gravity thereof can be moved in the race.

The optical disk control program is to be installed in a personal computer (PC) and controls the ejection/loading of a tray of an optical disk player. If a predetermined key or key combination is entered through the computer, an EJECT or LOAD command is applied to the optical disk player in response to entering of the predetermined key combination via the optical disk control program. The tray of the optical disk player can be ejected/loaded using the keyboard or digitizer, and thus there is no need to install the EJECT button in the optical disk player.
