  • Patent number: 11141267
Abstract: A prosthetic aortic valve includes an annular, annulus inflow portion that is designed to reside in or near the patient's native aortic valve annulus, and an annular, aortic outflow portion that is designed to reside in the patient's aorta downstream from at least a portion of the valsalva sinus. The annulus inflow portion and the aortic outflow portion are connected to one another by a plurality of connecting struts that are confined to regions near the commissures of the patient's native aortic valve. The connecting struts are designed to bulge out into the valsalva sinus to help anchor the prosthetic valve in place. The valve is circumferentially collapsible to a relatively small diameter for less-invasive delivery into the patient. The valve circumferentially expands to a larger operational diameter when deployed at the implant site.

  • Patent number: 11045314
Abstract: A prosthetic heart valve includes a stent having an expanded condition and a collapsed condition. The stent includes a plurality of distal cells, a plurality of proximal cells, a plurality of support struts coupling the proximal cells to the distal cells, and at least one support post connected to a plurality of proximal cells. The proximal cells are longitudinally spaced apart from the distal cells. Various strut configurations and connections of the struts to the proximal cells and of the proximal cells to the support post improve stent flexibility and reduce stress in the valve leaflets.

  • Patent number: 11013596
Abstract: Prosthetic heart valve apparatus is adapted for delivery into a patient in a circumferentially collapsed condition, followed by circumferential re-expansion at the implant site in the patient. The apparatus includes an annular anchoring structure that can be implanted in the patient first. The apparatus further includes an annular valve support structure, which supports a flexible leaflet structure of the valve. The support and leaflet structures are initially separate from the anchoring structure, but they can be implanted in the patient by interengagement of the support structure with the already-implanted anchoring structure.

  • Publication number: 20210121290
Abstract: At least a portion of sheet materials for use in medical devices is formed from polymeric materials. The sheet materials may be partially coated or fully coated with one or more additional layers of a polymer. The sheet materials may be used for the leaflets and/or cuffs of prosthetic heart valves and as a component of other medical devices.

  • Patent number: 10874510
Abstract: A prosthetic heart valve may include a collapsible and expandable stent having a proximal end, a distal end, an annulus section adjacent the proximal end, and a plurality of cells connected to one another in annular rows around the stent, a cuff attached to the stent, and a sealing member attached to the cuff and extending from a proximal end of the cuff to a free edge. The sealing member may be movable between an extended condition in which the free edge is located proximally of the proximal end of the stent, and an inverted condition in which the free edge is located distally of the proximal end of the stent and a first surface of the sealing member confronts an outward-facing surface of the cuff. Various mechanisms for moving the sealing member are also described.

  • Publication number: 20200397577
Abstract: A guidewire may be configured for insertion into a heart of a patient during a procedure such as a transcatheter aortic valve replacement procedure. The guidewire may include a proximal end and a distal end portion. The distal end portion may include (i) a leading section, (ii) a loop structure at a terminal distal end of the guidewire, and (iii) a transition section extending between the leading section and the loop structure. In the absence of applied forces, the leading section is not tangential to the loop structure. With such a configuration, the guidewire may avoid contact with the ventricular septum of the heart when the loop structure is seated within the left ventricle, which may mitigate potential interference with conduction pathways in the ventricular septum, which may in turn mitigate the need for a pacemaker.

  • Publication number: 20200138574
Abstract: A prosthetic heart valve for replacing a native valve includes a collapsible and expandable stent having a proximal end and a distal end, and a valve assembly including a plurality of leaflets, the valve assembly being disposed within the stent. The heart valve further includes a first plurality of elongated legs coupled to the stent and transitionable from an extended configuration to a relaxed configuration. • Publication number: 20190269508
Abstract: A prosthetic heart valve (e.g., a prosthetic aortic valve) is designed to be somewhat circumferentially collapsible and then re-expandable. The collapsed condition may be used for less invasive delivery of the valve into a patient. When the valve reaches the implant site in the patient, it re-expands to normal operating size, and also to engage surrounding tissue of the patient. The valve includes a stent portion and a ring portion that is substantially concentric with the stent portion but downstream from the stent portion in the direction of blood flow through the implanted valve. When the valve is implanted, the stent portion engages the patient's tissue at or near the native valve annulus, while the ring portion engages tissue downstream from the native valve site (e.g., the aorta).
