  • Publication number: 20080002741
Abstract: A relay node receives individual ones of a plurality of request messages destined for a network access node from individual ones of a plurality of user nodes; aggregates the received individual ones of the plurality of request messages into a single message at the relay node; and sends the single message to the network access node. The relay node further operates to receive from the network access node a single message that contains an aggregated plurality of response messages for individual ones of the user nodes and sends individual ones of the response messages to individual ones of the user nodes. The method advantageously handles the case of a mobile relay node, having a plurality of attached idle state mobile stations/subscriber stations, that transitions to a new paging group.

  • Publication number: 20070297373
Abstract: A method for saving power, at a mobile terminal, includes receiving a call, at a network entity, wherein the call contains information relating to transmission of the call from the network entity to the mobile terminal. The mobile terminal operates in first and second communications networks, which are different. The mobile terminal detects coverage of the first communications network and activates a first interface corresponding to the first communications network. The mobile terminal can also deactivate the first interface and activate a second interface corresponding to the second communications network while the mobile terminal is located in both the first and second communications networks. The mobile terminal can then enter a low power consumption mode supported by the second communications network.

  • Patent number: 7290063
Abstract: A method of relocating the header compression context in a packet network which transmits packets having compressed headers. A connection is established between a mobile terminal and a first network entity and context information used with compression and decompression of the headers of the packets is stored at the mobile terminal and the first network entity. The context information updating is stopped in the mobile terminal and in the first network entity and after that, a snapshot of the compression and decompression context information is taken and stored in the first network entity. The connection between the first network entity and the mobile terminal is changed to a connection between the mobile terminal and a second network entity. The context information snapshot stored by the first network entity is transferred to the second network entity to be stored therein as the context information of the second network entity.

  • Publication number: 20070249347
Abstract: Various embodiments are disclosed relating to the optimization of relay station handovers and location update in a wireless network. According to an example embodiment, a request to handover a plurality of mobile stations from a first base station to a second base station may be sent. An identifier associated with the second base station for each of the plurality of mobile stations may be received. In another example embodiment, each of the identifiers is forwarded to the mobile station corresponding to the connection identifier. In another example embodiment, a location update may be performed by sending a message to a network device, such as a target base station, to provide location update information for a plurality of mobile stations. In this manner, one message may be transmitted over a wireless link to facilitate a handover or location update for a plurality of mobile stations.

  • Publication number: 20070190933
Abstract: The present invention provides an enhanced H-ARQ scheme that optimizes bandwidth utilization and spectrum efficiency. When an H-ARQ attempt is unsuccessful due to loss or error over a hop between the BS and MS/SS, then only the first node in the hop chain that fails to decode the packet transmits another H-ARQ attempt. The BS determines the first node that fails on decoding based on certain information such as the feedback information sent from the nodes on the path. The previous node of the failed node is then instructed to retransmit by the BS.

  • Publication number: 20070005803
Abstract: Methods and systems for carrying call control information after a call handover from an Internet Protocol (IP) packet switched network to a circuit switched cellular network and vice versa. The IP packet switched network includes a processing server capable of processing IP-based protocol messages. The circuit switched cellular network includes a mobile switching center. A gateway is operatively connected as a bridge between the IP packet switched network and the circuit switched cellular network. The gateway is capable of encapsulating an IP-based protocol message into a payload of a second message, and extracting an IP-based protocol message from a payload of another message. One or more user devices are capable of transmitting and receiving to/from the IP packet switched network and the circuit switched cellular network.

  • Patent number: 7123920
Abstract: In a technique for setting up calls in IP mobile networks, when an application level in a mobile station sends a setup message to set up a multimedia call, before sending such a message over the radio interface, the mobile station performs the appropriate procedures to setup the appropriate bearers over the radio interface and in the network to satisfy the call requirements specified by the application level in the setup message. The technique applies to both mobile originated calls and mobile terminated calls, the called mobile station performing the transport level procedures after having received a setup message and before sending a confirmation/call acceptance message back to the calling party. Furthermore, the allocation of radio resources for PDP contexts that will be used to carry the media of a multimedia IP called is delayed so that no radio resources are allocated to the PDP contexts activated before the call control signaling is exchanged.

  • Publication number: 20060126582
Abstract: A method of deliveries data and to a mobile node for receiving data delivered from a packet-switched data network. A first registration of the mobile node is performed to a first network of a first access technology, and an additional second registration of the mobile node is performed to a second network of a second access technology by using an address associated with the mobile node in said first network. An interface of the mobile node towards the second network is deactivated and the mobile node is set into an idle mode of the first network. When an incoming signaling of the first network is received at the mobile node, it is used as a trigger for activating the interface to the second network. Thereby, efficient data delivery via the second access technology, for example, WLAN technology, is allowed to bring down the communications charges and yet cellular efficient power consumption is achieved in idle mode, by camping on the first access technology, for example, cellular technology.

  • Patent number: 7023803
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for controlling a packet data flow in a radio communication system, such as a third-generation, cellular communication system. Indicia of communications of the packet data flow upon an air link extending to a mobile station are provided to a selector. The selector selects, responsive to values of the communication indicia, whether to alter, such as by reducing or terminating, the packet data flow upon the air link. Selection is made by the selector and indications of the selection are provided to an allocator. The allocator allocates communication capacity in the radio access network of the communication system to the packet data flow as well as other ongoing packet data flows in the radio access network.

  • Publication number: 20060018332
Abstract: The techniques described increase data throughput by aggregating block acknowledgements. These embodiments provide a single block acknowledgement for multiple traffic identifiers in data communication with a communication station. One method includes providing a multiple start sequence number corresponding to each traffic identifier of a plurality of traffic identifiers and providing a bit map corresponding to each multiple start sequence number. The bit map indicates a block acknowledgement of packets corresponding to one traffic identifier of the plurality of traffic identifiers.

  • Publication number: 20060018268
Abstract: A system and method for including aggregation control information in an aggregate frame that facilitates enhanced power efficiency is provided. Aggregation control information may include lengths of frames addressed to different stations and/or transmission opportunities to different stations. A receiving station is then able to calculate an offset within the aggregate frame that identifies the position of frames addressed to the receiving station and/or offset when it can use the medium to transmit it's data. The receiving station may then enter a sleep mode and awaken at a proper time for using the medium to either receive, or transmit data on the medium. Additionally, aggregation control information may include rate information to facilitate aggregation of multi-rate data in an aggregate frame.
