  • Patent number: 6013854
Abstract: One embodiment of a stent includes a cylindrical openwork frame having holes defined by side frame segments and middle frame segments, and notches defined by the side frame segments. This stent is made of a super elastic metal as a single piece without an abrupt change in the physical property of the stent. Another embodiment of the stent is made of wires in the shape of a substantially circular cylinder. The wires forming the stent are made thicker in the middle portion and thinner in both end portions. A stenosis-treating device includes an indwelling stent, a tubular sheath which holds the stent in a compressed state, a balloon catheter which is passed through the sheath and which has a dilatation balloon, and a projection at the rear of the portion of the sheath in which the stent is held which comes into contact with the rear end of the stent when the sheath is moved rearward and lets the stent out of the front end of the sheath.

  • Patent number: 5084015
Abstract: A catheter assembly of the hypodermic embedment type for infusing a fluid medicament such as a carcinostatic agent into a body cavity such as a blood vessel for therapeutic purposes, includes a medicament infusion implement having an inlet port and an outlet port and a catheter connected to the implement outlet port. The device is used by inserting and indwelling the catheter in a body cavity and embedding the implement beneath the skin. Treatment can be repeated any number of desired times with the catheter assembly kept indwelled in the body, resulting in a significant reduction of the burden to the patient as compared with the prior art technique requiring insertion and withdrawal of a catheter every time when treatment is made. Also, the danger of infection during the treatment is eliminated, as compared to the prior art technique where the catheter is percutaneously inserted.

  • Patent number: 5076280
Abstract: The waveform of a blood pressure of a patient is corrected by a pressure correcting mechanism having an air chamber having a volume ranging from 1 to 150 .mu.l and a resistance passage having one end communicating with the air chamber and the other end with a blood pressure measuring line. The resistance passage has a cross-sectional area ranging from 2000 to 160,000 .mu.m.sup.2 and a length ranging from 0.5 to 40 mm. A fluid such as a physiological saline solution filled in the blood pressure measuring line can flow through the resistance passage into the air chamber to dampen an extraneous pressure wave transmitted through the blood pressure measuring line.

  • Patent number: 4919605
Abstract: An extruder apparatus for molding a tube used for guiding a rod-like medical instrument into a living body. The resulting tubular body is made of a synthetic resin and has a longitudinal hollow portion to permit the passage of the rod-like medical instrument. The whole of the tubular body is formed to have a chemical uniformity, but at least one brittle portion such as a weld line is longitudinally formed over the entire length (or almost the entire length except the tip portion) of the tubular body. The brittle portion is formed by a die including a nozzle having a resin flow passageway of annular cross section. At least one baffle extends radially into the passageway for substantially temporarily splitting the flow which is then recombined to form the brittle portion.

  • Patent number: 4906233
Abstract: A method of firmly securing a catheter body to a surface portion of human skin, without causing the catheter body to be bent or reducing the diameter of the inner passage of the catheter body. This method employs a catheter-securing member which comprises a cylindrical body for allowing the catheter body to be slidably inserted therein, and a slit is provided along the axial direction of the cylindrical body. In this method a ligature is first pierced through a surface portion of human skin and tied over the surface of human skin, leaving a pair of free end portions extending out of the skin, and then the cylindrical body is secured with the free end portions of the ligature by winding the ligature around the cylindrical body and fastening them.

  • Patent number: 4883468
Abstract: Medical instrument introduction cannula, which is useful as a guide means for introducing and indwelling a rod-like material instrument such as a catheter and a guide wire. This cannula is removed after use from the medical instrument by being splitted. This cannula is formed of a hollow tubular body having a strip member consisting of a material different from the other portion of the tubular body, which extends over the entire or almost the entire length of the tubular body. The strip member has a weld line along the length of the strip member, or consists of a resin which exhibits a good bonding property only to one of the other components forming the tubular body. The tubular body can be splitted by way of the weld line or the removal of the strip member having such a bonding property. The method of manufacturing the medical instrument introduction cannular by a two-color extruder is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4699617
Abstract: A flowmeter has a main body having fluid inlet and outlet passages and a vertical fluid channel formed in the main body and having one end communicating with the inlet passage and the other end communicating with the outlet passage. The vertical fluid channel has a first passage and a second passage having a cross-sectional area larger than that of the first passage. The first passage has therein a float for regulating a flow rate of the fluid flowing therethrough, and is tapered to have a cross-sectional area increasing from the inlet passage side toward the outlet passage side such that the float remains in position when the fluid passes through the first passage. The second passage has therein a valve for opening the second passage when the fluid is to flow therethrough and for closing the second passage when the fluid is not to flow therethrough. The valve has a projection for moving the float toward the inlet passage when the second passage is closed.
