  • Patent number: 5233924
Abstract: Pencil writable and printable synthetic paper comprising a finely porous polyolefin film layer having an opacity of at least 80% obtained by stretching a polyolefin film containing from 8 to 65% by weight of an inorganic fine powder having on one or both sides thereof a stretched ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer film layer, at least one of the stretched ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer film layers having a coat layer thereon. When printed, the stretched ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer film layer prevents hydrocarbon solvents present in printing inks from penetrating into the polyolefin film layer to eliminate local surface unevenness and curling.

  • Patent number: 4986866
Abstract: A process for producing synthetic label paper which comprises preparing a multi-layer film comprising a film of a thermoplastic resin containing an inorganic fine powder having provided on the back side thereof a layer of a heat-sealable resin having a melting point lower than that of said thermoplastic resin, embossing the heat-sealable resin layer, and stretching the embossed multi-layer film at a temperature of from the melting point of said heat-sealable resin to a temperature lower than the melting point of said thermoplastic resin. The label paper, when used for in-mold decorating of a container, gives a blister-free appearance to a container, causes no deformation of a container, and exhibits sufficient nerve for fitting to an inner wall of a mold.

  • Patent number: 4483965
Abstract: A stretched film having excellent printing and writing properties and mechanical strength is produced by stretching a film molded from a styrene-grafted polyolefin resin in at least one direction. The styrene-grafted polyolefin resin is produced by heating an aqueous suspension containing 100 parts by weight of polyolefin resin particles, from 10 to 400 parts by weight of a styrene monomer, and a free radical polymerization initiator in an amount of from 0.01 to 1 part by weight per 100 parts by weight of the styrene monomer.

  • Patent number: 4472227
Abstract: A process for producing an oriented composite polyolefin resin film which comprises melt-laminating a polyolefin resin sheet for a paper-like layer on at least one surface of a monoaxially stretched polyolefin resin sheet for a substrate layer, and then stretching the resulting laminated sheet in a direction perpendicular to said monoaxially stretched direction. The polyolefin resin sheet for the substrate layer is a sheet of composite structure prepared by melt-extruding the specific compositions (A), (B), and (C) through a co-extrusion die in such a manner that a layer composed of the thermoplastic resin composition (A) is laminated on one surface of an intermediate layer composed of the polyolefin composition (B) containing a filler and a layer composed of the thermoplastic resin composition (C) is laminated on the other surface of the intermediate layer. Said polyolefin resin sheet for the paper-like layer is composed of a specific polyolefin composition (D) containing a filler.

  • Patent number: 4420530
Abstract: A water-soluble coating composition adapted for imparting appropriate printing, especially off-set printing, and processing characteristics to a thermoplastic resin film to be used as a synthetic paper and a coated film prepared with the composition are provided. The coating composition comprises (A) 100 parts by weight of a water-soluble polymer containing tertiary or quaternary nitrogen, (B) 5 to 75 parts by weight of a water-soluble polyaminepolyamideepichlorohydrin adduct, and (C) 5 to 100 parts by weight of a water-soluble polyimine compound.

  • Patent number: 4418112
Abstract: A composite film comprising a first layer comprising a polyolefin resin containing finely divided calcium carbonate dispersed therein and a surface layer comprising a polyolefin resin containing an acidic filler dispersed therein, which surface layer is bonded directly or indirectly to at least one surface of the first layer and has a thickness of at least 3 microns. A diazo copying paper is also disclosed which has a photosensitive diazo layer on the surface layer of the composite film.
