  • Patent number: 5376284
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the treatment of an effluent containing an organic chlorine compound in the presence of a porous iron type metallic article and hydrogen peroxide thereby effecting oxidizing decomposition of the organic chlorine compound, operated by a procedure which comprises causing the organic chlorine compound having hydrogen peroxide incorporated preparatorily therein to be circulated through a closed vessel having the porous iron type metallic article disposed therein thereby effecting oxidizing decomposition of the organic chlorine compound and then simultaneously circulating and aerating the effluent containing the organic chlorine compound under the condition of keeping the upper part of the closed vessel in an opened state thereby effecting oxidizing decomposition of the organic chlorine compound or causing the gaseous phase stagnating in the upper part of the vessel to be introduced into the effluent.

  • Patent number: 5223230
Abstract: A component for deodorizing air or gas having a coexist compound as a deodorizing element, said coexist compound comprising a metal and a reaction product of the metal and an acid, wherein the metal is selected from at least one of Fe, Mn, Cr, Ni, Zn, Al and Cu, and the acid is selected from at least one of ascorbic acid, gluconic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid, tannic acid, gallic acid, EDTA and malic acid, wherein clean air or gas is passed through the deodorizing element to restore its deodorizing effect after a period of time sufficient for the deodorizing element to lose its deodorizing power.

  • Patent number: 4388113
Abstract: In bottom blown oxygen steel making or in top and bottom blown combined oxygen steel making, a tip end of a tuyer immersed in molten steel is seriously damaged or melted away due to very high temperatures due to the vigorous combustion of carbon, manganese and so on by the oxygen blown into a furnace. In order to prevent such damage, hydrocarbon gas has been blown through space between an outer pipe and an inner pipe of a dual pipe tuyere or tuyeres, but such hydrocarbon gas rather excessively lowers the temperature of the molten metal adjacent to the tip end of the tuyere and often blocks the opening of the tuyere. Now, instead of blowing in hydrocarbon gas, particulate material such as limestone magnesite, dolomite and the mixture thereof are proposed to be blown into the molten metal in the decarburization steel making vessel carried by an innert gas, combustion gas, blast furnace gas, LD process gas and oxygen or a mixture of these gases.

  • Patent number: 4261202
Abstract: An apparatus for determining carbon contents in molten metal comprising an entrance chamber with an entry port in a side wall, a sampling chamber, a ring-shaped disk to be set between both chambers and a temperature sensing means which is protected from the flowing sample metal by a protective thermal insulation member, protruding through the entrance chamber to the sampling chamber. The molten metal flowing from the entry port is cooled by contacting with the protective thermal insulation member. The insulation member will turn to be a riser when the sample metal starts solidifying in the sampling chamber. Thus enabling precise rapid carbon determination and simultaneously offering appropriate specimen for spectrographic analysis.

  • Patent number: 4002069
Abstract: An improved measuring lance to be inserted into a bath of molten metal, for example, molten steel, is disclosed having thermocouples on its tip end and in its receptacle chamber, respectively. The lance is provided with means to discharge air from inside a cover for a thermocouple in a receptacle chamber. A deoxidation chamber made of steel may be provided in the lance. Means to spray gas from around the connector of the lance may also be provided. These means assure accurate measuring of the temperature, composition, etc. of the bath.
