  • Patent number: 7706226
Abstract: The invention is to provide a method for determining an optimum writing strategy for an optical information recording system to record information onto an optical information recording medium. According to a preferred embodiment of the method of the invention, a determination function of speed and temperature is provided. The determination function is related to a plurality of allowable writing strategies. Then, the optical information recording system receives a user-desired speed and senses a temperature therein. Finally, one of the allowable writing strategies is determined, by applying the user-desired speed and the temperature in the determination function, as the optimum writing strategy.

  • Patent number: 7535807
Abstract: A method for writing a multi-session recordable disc. The method includes performing an immediate optimum power calibration (IOPC) in the lead-in area of each session of a multi-session recordable disc, determining a recording power for the session according to the IOPC output, and completing the session using the determined recording power. The method may be used in addition to the optimal power calibration (OPC) procedures included in the normal initialization of recordable discs. IOPC provides recording devices with an optimal recording power value obtained closer to the point of use than that obtained by conventional OPC procedures carried out at the extremities of the recordable area. Alternative embodiments of the method make accommodations for recording power variations according to disc velocity mode (CAV/CLV), recording speed, and the basis of the IOPC upon a variety of available data sources.

  • Publication number: 20060227684
Abstract: The invention is to provide a method for controlling the recording speed of an optical drive. The optical drive includes a buffer for storing data transferred from an external source, and the optical drive continuously records the data onto an optical disc. According to a preferred embodiment of the method of the invention, first, the recording speed of the optical drive is set to equal to the k-th allowable recording speed in the N allowable recording speeds. When the optical drive performs continuous recording for M times, a first data transfer rate between the external source and the buffer is calculated according to an algorithm, and a second data transfer rate is calculated according to the l-th allowable recording speed, where I is an integer smaller than k. If the first data transfer rate is slower than the second data transfer rate, the recording speed of the optical drive is lowered.
