  • Publication number: 20210284764
Abstract: In at least one embodiment, a process of forming a polymer includes supplying a feed having one or more olefin monomers and a solvent; contacting the feed with a catalyst to form a reaction mixture; treating the reaction mixture in a first separator to form a first polymer-rich mixture; introducing the first polymer-rich mixture into a second separator; introducing a volatile component and/or inert component into the first separator, the second separator and/or a line between the first separator and the second separator; treating the first polymer-rich mixture to form a second polymer-rich mixture; and devolatilizing the second polymer-rich mixture to obtain the polymer.

  • Patent number: 10807064
Abstract: A reactor comprising a first portion having a generally cylindrical housing, an inlet at one end of said first portion housing, the opposed end of said first portion housing being the outlet of said first portion, where said first portion includes a rotatable shaft positioned axially within said housing and including at least two shearing paddles extending radially from said rotatable shaft and a second portion having a generally frustoconical housing having a first end larger than a second end, said first end constituting an inlet to said second portion and coextensive with said opposed end of said first portion housing, and an outlet at said second end, where said second portion includes a rotatable shaft positioned axially within said housing and including at least one generally helical flight extending radially from said rotatable shaft.

  • Patent number: 9296837
Abstract: Methods and systems for pelletizing low molecular weight semi-crystalline polymers are provided herein. Polymer compositions comprising the semi-crystalline polymer and a solvent are provided to a devolatilizing device, where the solvent is at least partially evaporated under vacuum conditions, resulting in removal of heat from the polymer by evaporative cooling and crystallization of the polymer. Once the polymer has reached the desired temperature, the polymer exits the devolatilizer and is pelletized. Semi-crystalline polymers that may be used in the present invention include propylene-based copolymers, such as propylene-ethylene and propylene-hexene copolymers having a heat of fusion, Hf, from about 5 to about 75 J/g and a weight average molecular weight, Mw, from about 10,000 to about 200,000 g/mol.
