Patent number: 6164998Abstract: An electrical connector includes an elongate housing and a latching device attached to each end thereof. The latching device includes a plastic retaining member integrally formed with the housing and a metal release member assembled to the retaining member. A daughter board engages with a slot defined in the housing and is rotated downward whereby resilient portions of the retaining member move outward until the daughter board is fully received in the slot. To disengage the daughter board from the connector an outward force is exerted on release pads of the release member. The resilient portions are moved outward to abut against corresponding first stoppers formed on the retaining member. At this position, an embossment extending from each retaining member will abut against a corresponding second stopper of the release member. The provision of the stoppers effectively prevents breakage of the resilient portions while disengaging a daughter board from the connector.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1998Date of Patent: December 26, 2000Assignee: Hon Hai Precision Ind. Patent number: 6086417Abstract: An electrical connector comprises an elongate insulative housing and three board locks. Each board lock comprises a main body, a cutout defined in the main body, engaging teeth formed on opposite inner surfaces of the cutout, and a pair of resilient legs extending downward from the main body. Slots are defined in the housing for receiving the corresponding board locks therein. Each slot is formed having tapered inner walls and an engaging projection extending downward from the housing into a center of the slot. When the board lock is inserted into the corresponding slot, the tapered inner walls of the slot will guide the cutout of the board lock toward the engaging projection thereby reducing the force required to insert the board lock into the slot. The engaging projection is shaped to fittingly engage with the engaging teeth formed on the board lock, thus, the board lock is firmly secured thereto.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1998Date of Patent: July 11, 2000Assignee: Hon Hai Precision Ind. Patent number: 5989075Abstract: A contact for an electric connector is configured as an elongated post. The contact consists of a body portion, a terminal portion for being soldered to a substrate, a PCB for example, a contact portion for engaging with a corresponding contact in a mating connector, a first fitting portion protruding from two lateral sides of the body portion, and a second fitting portion also protruding from the two lateral sides of the body portion. The second fitting portion is located nearer to the terminal portion than the first fitting portion and has a width larger than that of the first fitting portion. When the contact is inserted into a corresponding contact passage defined by a dielectric housing of the connector, the first and second fitting portions will sequentially have an interference fit with the housing.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1997Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Assignee: Hon Hai Precision Ind.
