  • Publication number: 20080076277
Abstract: An electrical connector includes a connector body (2), and a plurality of passageways (20). A passageway retention wall (202) extends into each of the passageways. Each of the terminals (3) has a terminal retention section (322) defining thereof a retention edge, which is adapted to be rested on said passageway retention wall for securing the terminal onto the connector body. This arrangement will prevent the connector body to be removed therefrom by an improperly upward force, such as force applied to pull out the mating component from the electrical connector.

  • Patent number: 6227877
Abstract: An electrical contact includes a main body having a contact arm (11) extending from a lower portion thereof, a tail (13) extending from an upper portion thereof, and a retainer (13) projecting from the main body between the contact arm and the tail. A cutout (133) is defined in a surface of the tail opposite a surface designed to engages with a PCB. A guiding slot (132) is defined in the main body of the contact between the tail and the contact arm opposite the retainer. When the tail is soldered to the PCB, any excess solder will flow along the contact. The cutout provides an obstruction and the guiding slot provides a surface area for the solder to solidify on the contact without covering a portion of the contact arm and hindering signal transmission.

  • Patent number: 6164998
Abstract: An electrical connector includes an elongate housing and a latching device attached to each end thereof. The latching device includes a plastic retaining member integrally formed with the housing and a metal release member assembled to the retaining member. A daughter board engages with a slot defined in the housing and is rotated downward whereby resilient portions of the retaining member move outward until the daughter board is fully received in the slot. To disengage the daughter board from the connector an outward force is exerted on release pads of the release member. The resilient portions are moved outward to abut against corresponding first stoppers formed on the retaining member. At this position, an embossment extending from each retaining member will abut against a corresponding second stopper of the release member. The provision of the stoppers effectively prevents breakage of the resilient portions while disengaging a daughter board from the connector.

  • Patent number: 6086417
Abstract: An electrical connector comprises an elongate insulative housing and three board locks. Each board lock comprises a main body, a cutout defined in the main body, engaging teeth formed on opposite inner surfaces of the cutout, and a pair of resilient legs extending downward from the main body. Slots are defined in the housing for receiving the corresponding board locks therein. Each slot is formed having tapered inner walls and an engaging projection extending downward from the housing into a center of the slot. When the board lock is inserted into the corresponding slot, the tapered inner walls of the slot will guide the cutout of the board lock toward the engaging projection thereby reducing the force required to insert the board lock into the slot. The engaging projection is shaped to fittingly engage with the engaging teeth formed on the board lock, thus, the board lock is firmly secured thereto.

  • Patent number: 5989075
Abstract: A contact for an electric connector is configured as an elongated post. The contact consists of a body portion, a terminal portion for being soldered to a substrate, a PCB for example, a contact portion for engaging with a corresponding contact in a mating connector, a first fitting portion protruding from two lateral sides of the body portion, and a second fitting portion also protruding from the two lateral sides of the body portion. The second fitting portion is located nearer to the terminal portion than the first fitting portion and has a width larger than that of the first fitting portion. When the contact is inserted into a corresponding contact passage defined by a dielectric housing of the connector, the first and second fitting portions will sequentially have an interference fit with the housing.

  • Patent number: 5951331
Abstract: A pressure absorbing contact includes an engaging portion for fixing in a spaced passageway of a connector. A pressure absorbing portion perpendicularly and obliquely extends from the engaging portion. An elastic curved contacting portion extends from the pressure absorbing portion and includes a contacting surface for electrically contacting an externally inserted contact. A frictional force between the contacting surface of the pressure absorbing contact and the externally inserted contact is considerably eliminated by deformation of the pressure absorbing portion and the elastic curved contacting portion upon application of the frictional force on the contacting surface of the pressure absorbing contact.
