  • Patent number: 6298552
Abstract: A method for making a socket connector for connecting a CPU module to a circuit board includes the steps of (1) attaching a conductive film to a first face of an insulative plate to form a laminate, the insulative plate defining at least an array of bores therein; (2) photo-etching or laser-etching the conductive film to remove the conductive film with a portion thereof left in the laminate corresponding to each bore of the insulative plate, the portion of the conductive film having a base section attached to the first face of the insulative plate and a beam section extending from the base section over the corresponding bore; and (3) performing a second forming process to bend each beam section through the corresponding bore and partially extending over a second face of the insulative plate to be opposite the base section, the beam section being spaced from the second face of the insulative plate for resilient deformation in engaging the CPU module.

  • Patent number: 6160709
Abstract: A retention device for mounting a heat sink to a CPU socket comprises a pair of supporting members and a pair of pressing members. Each supporting member is pivotably assembled with one pressing member to form a subassembly. The subassemblies straddle opposite ends of the CPU socket, respectively. Each supporting member comprises a supporting portion defining a supporting face thereon and a pair of side portions. The side portions define a pair of through holes therethrough and a pair of side supporting face thereon. The supporting faces together with the side supporting faces support opposite sides of a heat sink having a pair of retention plates extending therefrom thereon. Each pressing member comprises an operating portion and a pressing portion defining an abutting portion to engage with a corresponding retention plate of the heat sink. Each pressing portion forms a pair of axles extending from two opposite outer surfaces thereof to engage with the through holes of the supporting member.

  • Patent number: 6146151
Abstract: A method for forming an electrical connector, comprising the following steps:stamping a flat metal sheet to obtain a number of blank contacts and connecting portions lying on the flat plane, the connecting portions electrically connecting the blank contacts together;insert molding elastomeric material to top and bottom faces of the metal sheet wherein a number of openings are formed in the elastomeric material aligning with the blank contacts and the connecting portions; andapplying a tool through the openings to act on the blank contacts and the connecting portions whereby the blank contacts are bent to extend over top and bottom faces of the elastomeric material so that contacts for engaging with mating electrical components are formed, and the connecting portions are separated from the contacts so that the contacts are electrically individual from each other.
