    Abstract: A method for de-contouring a source image is provided. In the method, a reference image is obtained based on the source image. Multi-oriented gradient calculation is performed on each pixel of the reference image, so as to obtain, for each pixel of the reference image, multiple gradient features that respectively correspond to multiple directions. For each pixel of the reference image, a monotonicity index is determined based on the corresponding gradient features. Then, a detail-protecting and de-contour operation is performed on the source image based on the monotonicity indices determined for the pixels of the reference image.

In one of the exemplary embodiments, the step of generating the first single scale detail image would include not limited to: performing a feature extraction of a first pixel block of an image frame to derive a first pixel feature, applying a first criteria to the first pixel feature to derive a positive result, performing a first detail alignment and a maximum extension of the positive result to derived an adjusted positive mapping result, applying a second criteria, which is opposite to the first criteria, to the first pixel feature to derive a negative result, performing a second detail alignment and a minimum extension of the negative result to derived an adjusted negative mapping result, and blending the adjusted positive mapping result and the adjusted negative mapping result to generate the first single scale detail image.

Furthermore, the display system comprises the processing circuit for one electronic apparatus, and the display panel and the timing controller for another electronic apparatus.

The motion estimation apparatus includes a candidate set generation circuit and a motion vector (MV) determination circuit. The candidate set generation circuit selects to add motion vectors of adjacent blocks into a motion vector candidate set of a current block of a current frame. The current block and one of the adjacent blocks belong to the same row (or the same column), and the one of the adjacent blocks is a block of the current frame or a block of a previous frame. The motion vector determination circuit is coupled to the candidate set generation circuit to receive the motion vector candidate set. The motion vector determination circuit determines the motion vector of the current block of the current frame according to the motion vector candidate set.
