    Abstract: The invention relates to a fluoropolymer-acrylic coating composition that can be used, for example, in coating electrodes and/or separators in electrochemical devices. A coated separator for a lithium ion battery contains the porous separator substrate, and coatings on at least one side of the separator. The coating consists of an inorganic coating on at least one side of the separator, and an adhesive organic coating on at least one side of the inorganic coating or the separator. The organic coating contains an improved fluoropolymer-acrylic composition or a mixture of fluoropolymer and acrylic. The present invention can improve the adhesion of the coated separator to electrodes.

    Abstract: A method of producing monomer droplets dispersed in an aqueous medium is provided, comprising providing an apparatus comprising a metallic membrane having a plurality of holes; wherein a monomer phase is in contact with a first side of said membrane; wherein an aqueous medium is in contact with a second side of said membrane; wherein said aqueous medium comprises one or more surfactant; and conveying said monomer phase through said through holes into said second volume under conditions sufficient to form a plurality of monomer droplets; wherein a shear force is applied at a point of egression of the first volume into the second volume; wherein the direction of shear is substantially perpendicular to the direction of egression of the first volume. Also provided is a method of making polymer particles comprising producing monomer droplets and then polymerizing some or all of the monomer in said monomer droplets.
