  • Patent number: 5626482
Abstract: A low profile electrical connector assembly includes plug and receptacle connectors having mating dielectric housings each mounting a plurality of terminals which include contact portions for interengagement with the contact portions of the terminals of the other connector. The terminals include feet portions for surface connection to circuit traces on a pair of printed circuit boards. The terminals are generally U-shaped as defined by a first leg that is joined to the respective foot portion of the terminal and free spring contact leg that is engageable with the contact portion of one of the terminals of the other connector and preloaded on a shoulder of the respective housing. The first leg is fixed to the housing at a proximal end thereof with a distal end of the first leg being flexibly movable into a slot in the housing.

  • Patent number: 5383797
Abstract: A system is provided for mounting a connector assembly to a mounting surface of an electrical apparatus through the use of a vacuum-suction nozzle. The connector assembly includes a dielectric housing adapted to be positioned adjacent the mounting surface. The housing has a plurality of terminal-receiving through passages. A plurality of electrical terminals are mounted in the passages and include tail portions projecting from first open ends of the through passages for interconnection to circuitry of the electrical apparatus. A film is secured to the housing covering second open ends of at least some of the through passages to provide a smooth surface area for engagement by the vacuum-suction nozzle for manipulating and positioning the connector assembly. Preferably, the film has an adhesive on one side thereof for securing to the housing.

  • Patent number: 5338215
Abstract: A jack assembly is provided with a contact switching system for receiving a coaxial plug. The assembly includes an insulative housing having a terminal-receiving chamber and an aperture communicating with the chamber for insertion therethrough of the coaxial plug. The housing includes a terminal pivot support in the chamber. A fixed terminal is mounted on the housing and includes a fixed contact portion located in the chamber. A movable terminal is mounted on the housing and includes a cantilevered spring contact arm projecting from the terminal pivot support for pivoting thereabout. The cantilevered spring contact arm includes a first contact portion for contacting the contact portion of the fixed terminal and a second contact portion for contacting the coaxial plug when inserted into the chamber. The spring contact arm is resiliently preloaded to bias the first contact portion against the contact portion of the fixed terminal.

  • Patent number: 5281169
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly is provided for mounting on a surface of a printed circuit board. The assembly includes a generally rectangular dielectric housing. A front of the housing defines a mating end for receiving a projecting portion of a mating connector. A generally rectangular conductive shield is disposed about portions of the housing and combines therewith to define a peripheral envelope of the connector assembly. The shield includes outside walls for covering at least some of the outside surfaces of the housing. At least one surface mounting foot is integral with at least one of the outside walls of the shield for securing the connector assembly to the surface of the printed circuit board. The surface mounting foot is located within the peripheral envelope of the connector assembly. The foot is formed at an opening in the shield which provides access through which visual observation can be made of the integrity of the surface mounting interface between the foot and the printed circuit board.

  • Patent number: 5211579
Abstract: A battery holder is disclosed which is of one piece construction and which includes a housing having a base and a pair of spaced end walls. One of the end walls is longer than the other and defines a recess therein which is configured to receive one end of the battery when the battery is inserted in the housing. A resilient terminal contact is provided at both ends of the housing and the terminal contact at the end opposite the recess is configured in a manner such that as the battery is being inserted in the housing the terminal contact is biased toward its end of the housing, and when the battery has been inserted into the housing the resilient terminal contact moves into overlying relationship with its end of the battery to hold that end of the battery against removal from the housing. In addition, terminal tails are provided on the terminal contacts which are kinked across their width to retain the connector on a circuit board prior to soldering.
