  • Publication number: 20120047149
Abstract: A computer-implemented method of extracting key phrases from a document is disclosed comprising the steps of accessing a repository comprising linked subjects, the repository comprising first and second data structures representing the relationship between said subjects using different representation criteria; pruning the first data structure by removing links between subjects based on a further relationship between said subjects in the second data structure; matching phrases in said document to subjects in the pruned first data structure; further pruning the pruned first data structure by removing unmatched subjects that are not linked to matched subjects; determining a ranking for each matched subject; and selecting key phrases using the determined subject rankings. A computer program for implementing the steps of this method when executed on a computer is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20110173145
Abstract: A device for classifying a document comprises a module to generate a data tree structure and configured to assign terms to a first plurality of nodes of the data tree structure, where each of the first plurality of nodes is assigned a weight. In assigning the weights of the first plurality of nodes, a first generation of combinations of possible weights assignable as the weights of the first plurality of nodes is obtained, and a second generation of combinations of possible weights assignable as the weights of the first plurality of nodes is obtained by performing the genetic algorithms in the first generation of combinations of possible weights. The device determines whether the document is in a document class based at least the weights of the first plurality of nodes.

  • Patent number: 7962480
Abstract: The relevance of documents is automatically determined based upon a weighted tree. Terms considered to be relevant are assigned to the leaf nodes of a tree data structure. A location can also be specified in a leaf node, indicating where in a document the term must appear to be considered relevant. Internal nodes of the tree are assigned operators (e.g., add, maximum or minimum). The connections between nodes are assigned weights. A relevance value for a given document is calculated as a function of occurrence in the document of terms assigned to leaves, operators assigned to internal nodes, and weights assigned to the associated node connections. Weighted trees can be used to process search queries. Documents with high relevance scores calculated against the tree can be returned to a user as the results to a query.

  • Publication number: 20100293116
Abstract: Systems and methods of URL and anchor text analysis for focused crawling are disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, a method may include training a focused crawler by: obtaining a training set of at least URL's or anchor text for a website, computing a score for the training set, and extracting a plurality of features of the training set, and computing a score for each of the plurality of features. The features identify key information contained in the website. The method may also include executing a trained focused crawler on other websites.

  • Publication number: 20100293159
Abstract: Systems and methods for extracting phrases from text are disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, a method may include preprocessing desired phrases into at least one phrase indexing data structure for efficient matching. The method may also include scanning text to construct a hash table including keys and corresponding entries. The method may also include locating suffix trie trees for each word in the hash table. The method may also include matching each position in the hash table against the suffix trie trees, and outputting phrases matched in the scanned text.

  • Publication number: 20100268701
Abstract: Systems and methods of navigational ranking for focused crawling are disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, a method may include using a classifier to distinguish at least one target web page from other web pages on a website. The method may also include modeling the web pages on the website by a directed graph G=(V, E), wherein each web page is represented by a vertex (V), and a link between two web pages is represented by an edge (E). The method may also include assigning each web page (u) in V is assigned a weight p(u) based on the classifier to calculate a navigational ranking indicating relevance of a web page.

  • Patent number: 7797359
Abstract: Recursive data naming is disclosed. A name is provided corresponding to a desired data item. A get procedure is defined, and is used upon the name. The get procedure recursively uses itself upon the metadata name, to retrieve a metadata item associated with the desired data item. The get procedure retrieves the desired data item.

  • Patent number: 7721085
Abstract: The invention provides for encryption of hierarchically structured information. In one embodiment, a method is provided for encrypting hierarchically structured information. The hierarchically structured information includes a particular node and zero or more descendent nodes, each node having a name and zero or more additional data for the node. The name of the particular node is encrypted and the encrypted name is stored. The one or more descendent nodes are stored with the parent-child relationships of the one or more descendent nodes exposed. Additional data for the particular node may be encrypted. Further, some, none or all of the data for the descendent nodes may be encrypted.

  • Patent number: 7342900
Abstract: A method and apparatus for estimating device availability in a pervasive peer to peer environment is presented. The method and apparatus include a linear estimation approach and a bin estimation approach, where the bin estimation approach may include enhanced bin estimation or adaptive bin estimation. A central node queries available contacted devices and builds a history of times and availability indications for the contacted device, and subsequently computes an availability probability curve based on assumptions regarding the availability indications and the time since the last received availability indication.

  • Publication number: 20050273471
Abstract: Techniques for performing an incremental update to a set of hierarchically structured information that do not expose the structure and content of the hierarchically structured information to unauthorized parties. The present techniques include encrypting the hierarchically structured information such that an arrangement of nodes and corresponding data of the hierarchically structured information is not exposed and each node includes a corresponding node identifier that is not encrypted and updating the hierarchically structured information by referring to the nodes using the node identifiers.

  • Publication number: 20050273472
Abstract: Techniques for verifying whether an incremental update was correctly applied to a set of hierarchically structured information include determining an overall integrity code for the hierarchically structured information and attaching the overall integrity code to the hierarchically structured information. An incremental update according to the present techniques includes an integrity code that is combined into the overall integrity code attached to the hierarchically structured information when the incremental update is applied to the hierarchically structured information. The integrity code of the incremental update is generated such that when the overall integrity code is recomputed it will match the overall integrity code attached to the hierarchically structured information if the incremental update was correctly applied.
