  • Publication number: 20040114485
Abstract: An optical disc drive that can carry out recording data to an optical disc such as a format procedure of the optical disc in a relatively short time is provided. An optical disc drive 1 has a rotation driving mechanism for rotating a loaded optical disc 2 at any one of multiple rotational speed (rotation number) levels, an optical pick-up 3 capable of moving in a radial direction of the loaded optical disc 2 to overwrite information (data) onto the optical disc 2 by emitting a laser beam thereto, and an optical pick-up moving mechanism including a sled motor 7 for moving the optical pick-up 3 in the radial direction of the optical disc 2. In a case that the optical disc 2 is a blank disc having no recording history, i.e., in a case of a first recording procedure of the optical disc 2, the optical disc drive 1 carries out recording at a recording speed higher than the highest recording speed for overwriting.

  • Publication number: 20030207169
Abstract: The present invention provides a sealed battery, in which leakage can be detected in reliable manner, a method for manufacturing the sealed battery, and a method for detecting leakage of the sealed battery. The invention provides a sealed battery containing helium, a method for manufacturing the sealed battery, and a method for detecting leakage. From inside a battery case sealed except an electrolyte inlet, the air is withdrawn, and pressure is applied by a gas containing helium under pressure higher than the atmospheric pressure through the electrolyte inlet. The electrolyte is injected, and after the electrolyte and the gas containing helium have been injected, the electrolyte inlet is sealed.

  • Publication number: 20030156512
Abstract: An optical power level-controlling device controls optical power level of a laser beam irradiated on an optical disk. The optical power level takes an ERASE (reference) level, a lower BIAS level and a higher WRITE level. Recording is performed by alternating the optical power level between BIAS and WRITE levels. In a controlling part, test signals are recorded while varying the optical power level and in an OPC for setting an optimum WRITE level by reproducing the test signals. A combined control, i.e., combination of a feedback control and a fixed value control at a predetermined ratio, is performed on BIAS level during a recording operation of the test signals. Fixed value control is performed on the difference between ERASE level and BIAS level during a recording operation.

  • Publication number: 20030155871
Abstract: An optical disc drive equipped with a TLN signal generating apparatus is disclosed. The TLN signal generating apparatus includes a TLN signal generating circuit for generating a TLN signal (track loss signal) based on signals obtained from an optical pick-up; a digitizing circuit for digitizing the TLN signal by comparing it with a reference level; and a correction circuit for correcting the TLN signal so that it is accurately digitized by the digitizing circuit irrespective of an offset component which is a direct current component contained in the TLN signal.

  • Publication number: 20030156521
Abstract: An optical power level-controlling device controls optical power level, such as a first reference level, a higher second level and a higher third level, of a laser beam irradiated on an optical disk. A table is created which contains second level indication data (difference between the second and first levels) for each of the second levels varied in a stepped manner and third level indication data (difference between the third and second levels) for each of ratios of the second level indication data to the third level indication data, the ratio being varied in a stepped manner. Optimum second level and optimum ratio for an optical disk are determined based on product information read from the optical disk. A second level and a ratio to be used for controlling an optical power level are retrieved from the table using the optimum second level and the optimum ratio.
