  • Patent number: 5382905
Abstract: The invention relates to a magnet apparatus for producing a uniform magnetic field for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The magnet apparatus is of the type having a pair of permanent magnet discs each of which has a hole in a central region and a yoke structure in which the magnet discs are held opposite to each other. For each magnet disc the yoke structure has an aperture which is in alignment with the hole in the magnet disc. As is usual, a pair of pole plates are attached to the opposite faces of the magnet discs, respectively, so as to produce a uniform magnetic field in a space between the two magnet discs. To ease visual observation of the object of imaging in the afore-mentioned space, such as the head part of a human body, the pole plate on each magnet disc is formed with a hole which is in alignment with the hole in the magnet disc. A video camera can be used. According to the need small pole pieces are attached to the surfaces of the holed pole plates to keep uniformity of the magnetic field.

  • Patent number: 5349318
Abstract: The invention realizes a double type coil used as a slant coil to generate a slant magnetic field for MRI, and the double type coil has small impedance and short length in comparison with the prior art. According to the invention, current path patterns constituted by a current path in spiral shape and a plurality of current paths in horseshoe shape surrounding the spiral path are formed respectively on the double semi-cylinder surfaces having the axis commonly. Directions of spirals on the two cylinder surfaces are opposite to each other. In the plural horseshoe-shaped paths on the two cylinder surfaces, a circuit is opened at the end on the same side of the cylinder. These current paths are all connected in series over the two surfaces thereby one current path is formed.

  • Patent number: 5287139
Abstract: A drive mechanism for conveying a photosensitive material in a processing tank filled with processing solution such as a developer, wherein a driving force from a driving source disposed outside the processing tank is transmitted to conveyor rollers located inside the processing tank through a pair of magnetic members. One of the magnetic members is located inside the processing tank and the other is located outside the processing tank so that the magnetic members face each other with the wall surface of the processing tank between them. Accordingly, the outside magnetic member is rotated by the driving force from the driving source. The rotation is transmitted to the inside magnetic member by means of a magnetic force, which rotates the conveyor rollers. The driving force is transmitted without a driving shaft or the like through the wall of the processing tank. Further, the processing tank can be made sufficiently airtight, thereby reducing degradation of the processing solution by oxidation.

  • Patent number: 4716370
Abstract: A coil arrangement for producing a static magnetic field comprising a central coil and two outer coils disposed on opposite sides of the central coil. The positions and dimensions of the coils are so selected that each term contained in the Taylor series of the function of the magnetic field in the axial direction (z axis) of the coil arrangement in minimized. The current density in the central portion of the central coil is made to be higher than at other portions. The inventive coil arrangement is smaller in size, lighter in weight, and consumers a smaller amount of power than the prior art for the same magnetic strength and with a better homogeneous magnetic field.

  • Patent number: 4700136
Abstract: An NMR imaging domain is required to have a uniform distribution of static magnetic field. However, it is very difficult to generate a uniform magnetic field for an entire imaging domain, which is usually a spherical domain. The invention advantageously, exploits the requirement that to obtain imaging the static magnetic field need only be uniform as the slicing part. Thus, sufficient uniformity of static magnetic field is obtained in the invention by providing one or more shim coils to a static magnetic field generating coil and selectively controlling current to be applied to each shim coil in relation to data defining the imaging domain.

  • Patent number: 4663592
Abstract: The static magnetic fields of an NMR imaging apparatus should be maintained constant in intensity in order to obtain satisfactory NMR images. Coils used to generate the static magnetic fields, and the supporting frames therefor, are subject to heat expansion due to changes in the temperature, which causes fluctuations in the intensity of the generated static magnetic fields. In the invention, the temperatures of the coils, frames, atmosphere and cooling water, and the amount of cooling water, are detected, and the energizing current for the static magnetic field coils is selectively controlled, based on the detected quantities, to thereby maintain constant the intensity of the generated static magnetic fields.
