  • Patent number: 8253702
Abstract: In a position detecting apparatus, electric power of a position pointer is turned on only when the position pointer is put within a particular range from a tablet to minimize consumption of a battery disposed in the position pointer. When the position pointer is brought close to the tablet, a control signal transmitted from the tablet is detected by a resonant circuit of the position pointer, and MOSFETs serving as a power switch are turned on by the detected signal. In response, electric power is supplied from a battery via the MOSFETs to circuit elements of the position pointer, and thus an operation of the position pointer starts.

  • Patent number: 8212550
Abstract: A position indicator includes a tubular core member comprising a first magnetic core, a second magnetic core, a first coil, a second coil, a rod, a pen-pressure detecting element, a capacitor, and a switch. At least one of the first and second magnetic cores includes a recessed portion extending in the axial direction so as to form a through-hole when the first and second magnetic cores are combined, and the rod is inserted through the hole. The first coil is wound around the tubular core member, and the second coil is wound around the second magnetic core. The pen-pressure detecting element detects a pressure applied to an end of the rod (i.e., the pen tip). The capacitor is connected to the first coil to form a resonant circuit. The switch controls “on” and “off” states of the second coil to calculate a rotation angle of the position indicator.

  • Patent number: 8154525
Abstract: An excitation coil (19) surrounding the periphery of the position detecting area is connected to an oscillating circuit (21), which oscillates at a frequency f0, through a drive circuit (20). A CPU (18) supplies control signals to a selecting circuit (12), a sample-and-hold circuit (16), an A/D conversion circuit (17), and the drive circuit (20). Based on the control signal output from the CPU (18), the drive circuit (20) controls the power of the signal output from the excitation coil (19) to ON or OFF. Further, the strength of the excitation signal supplied from the excitation coil (19) is controlled based on information obtained by analyzing a signal received from a position indicator (40), such as the position indicated by the position indicator on the position detecting area and/or a strength of the signal received from the position indicator.

  • Patent number: 8089008
Abstract: When a start pulse is supplied, a time-constant circuit (1) is charged to a voltage Vcc, and charge in a variable capacitor (C) is discharged through a resistor (R1). Upon the voltage (a) of the variable capacitor (C) reaching a preset reference voltage V1, a signal (b) is output from a comparator (2). In response to the signal (b), a time measuring circuit (3) stores a measured time period as a time period “T1”, and at the same time a switching signal (c) is output. The switching signal (c) switches the reference voltage V1 to a reference voltage V2, which is slightly lower than the reference voltage V1, and further switches the resistor R1 to a resistor R2, which has higher resistance than the resistor R1. Upon the voltage (a) of the variable capacitor (C) reaching the reference voltage V2, the signal (b) is output from the comparator 2. In response to the signal (b), the time measuring circuit (3) stores a measured time period as a time period “T2”.
