    Abstract: In a door checker for an automobile, including an intermediate recess which is formed in a side face of a check lever and deeper than a ball guide groove and into which a check ball is fitted by a biasing force of a check spring in order to generate a moderation resistance at a position of at least one medium opening degree of a door, the intermediate recess is formed so that a second opening width in a direction intersecting a centerline of the ball guide groove is larger than a first opening width along the centerline of the ball guide groove. Thus, the feeling of moderation upon fitting between the check ball and the recess is improved, and the generation of an abnormal sound during passing of the check ball through the recess by rapidly opening or closing the door is prevented.

    Abstract: An automobile door checker includes a check plate, a shoe holder housed in a case, a shoe that is held by the shoe holder and slides on the check plate accompanying relative movement between the case and the check plate, and a check spring that resiliently urges the shoe holder toward the check plate in order to press the shoe against the check plate. The shoe is axially supported in the shoe holder so that the shoe can swing from a neutral position to forward and backward swing limits. The shoe is provided with return-to-neutral means for exhibiting a return force that makes the shoe return to the neutral position. The contact area between the shoe and the check plate is arranged so that the frictional force in the contact area becomes the smallest when the shoe reaches the shoe swing limits.

    Abstract: In a check plate supporting structure, a check plate of a door checker interposed between a door support and a door supported on the door support is turnably supported on a bracket mounted to the door support. A pivot secured to the bracket is relatively turnably press-fitted into a polygonal bearing bore defined in the check plate. Large numbers of pressure-contact portions and gaps are alternately arranged between an inner peripheral surface of the bearing bore and an outer peripheral surface of the pivot in circumferential directions thereof. Thus, the looseness between the pivot secured to the bracket and the bearing bore in the check plate can be eliminated without excessive increase in turning torque of the check plate relative to the bracket, thereby preventing generation of an abnormal sound during opening and closing of the door and facilitating manual mounting of the door checker to the door support.

    Abstract: In a door checker for an automobile, including: a case; a check plate which movably extends through the case and which has on its opposite sides ball guide grooves extending in a lengthwise direction; a pair of ball holders accommodated in the case; a pair of balls which are retained in hemispherical ball housings of the ball holders and which are rollably engaged in the ball guide grooves; and a check spring for biasing the ball holders toward said check plate; and a recess for retaining a grease on an inner surface of each of the ball housings and for accommodating a dust therein is formed in the inner surface of each of the ball housings. Thus, the sticking of the balls due to an entering dust can be prevented, and the smooth rotation and rolling of the balls can be ensured over a long term.
