    Abstract: A novel polyester resin is provided which exhibits an anisotropic melt phase. The polymer comprises recurring 4-oxybenzoyl units, 6-oxy-2-naphthoyl units, aromatic dicarboxy units, and aromatic diol units as described in appropriate concentrations. The resulting polyester exhibits excellent melt processability in combination with good mechanical properties and a good retention of properties at elevated temperatures.
