The glass comprises, in % by weight: basic glass components comprising 65 to 80% SiO.sub.2, 0 to 5% B.sub.2 O.sub.3, 0 to 5% Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, 0 to 10% MgO, 5 to 15% CaO, 10 to 18% Na.sub.2 O, 0 to 5% K.sub.2 O, 5 to 15% MgO+CaO, and 10 to 20% Na.sub.2 O+K.sub.2 O, and coloring components comprising 0.20 to 0.50% total iron oxide (T-Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3) in terms of Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3, 0 to 3.0% CeO.sub.2, 0.025 to 6.0% La.sub.2 O.sub.3, 0 to 2.0% TiO.sub.2, 0.0002 to 0.005% CoO, 0.0002 to 0.005% Se, 0 to 0.01% NiO, and 0 to 1.0% SnO.sub.2, wherein 5 to 25% of said T-Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 in terms of Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 is FeO.

The glass consists of base glass including: 65 to 80 wt. % SiO.sub.2 ; 0 to 5 wt. % Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 ; 0 to 10 wt. % MgO; 5 to 15 wt. % CaO wherein a total amount of MgO and CaO is between sand 15 wt. %; 10 to 20 wt. % Na.sub.2 O; 0 to 5 wt. % K.sub.2 O wherein a total amount of Na.sub.2 O and K.sub.2 O is between 10 to 20 wt. %; and 0 to 5 wt. % B.sub.2 O.sub.3, and colorants including: 0.7 to 0.95 wt. % total iron oxide (T-Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3) expressed as Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 ; 1.1 to 2.3% TiO.sub.2, 0 to 2.0% CeO.sub.2, 0.013 to 0.025 wt. % CoO; 0 to 0.0008% Se; and 0.01 to 0.07% NiO.
