  • Patent number: 6284387
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for the preparation of a polymer-metal cluster composite material having usefulness as a non-linear optical material or high-modulus material. The method comprises bringing a polymeric resin into contact with vapor of a heavy metal compound such as an acetylacetonato complex compound of palladium, platinum or copper under a non-oxidizing atmosphere at a temperature higher than the glass transition temperature of the polymeric resin so that the metal compound vapor is dissolved into the polymeric resin in a glassy state and is in situ reduced into the form of an elementary metal forming clusters of the metal particles.

  • Patent number: 5847174
Abstract: Proposed is a method for the preparation of an ionic polyhalogeno metal complex compound consisting of a tetraalkylammonium cation and a polyhalogeno metal anion, of which the metal is selected from those having an atomic valency of 1 and a coordination number of 2, those having an atomic valency of 3 and a coordination number of 4 and those having an atomic valency of 2 and a coordination number of 4. The method comprises the steps of: dissolving a tetraalkylammonium halide and elementary halogen in a stoichiometric proportion corresponding to the chemical composition of the desired complex compound in an organic solvent to form a solution; dissolving, in the solution, the metal in an amount larger than the stoichiometric amount so as to be dissolved in the solution forming the complex compound in the reaction mixture; removing the undissolved metal from the reaction mixture to give a solution of the complex compound; and isolating the complex compound from the solution.

  • Patent number: 5389124
Abstract: An efficient method is proposed for the recovery of gold value from a waste material containing scrap gold by utilizing a principle that metallic gold can be dissolved at elevated temperatures and specifically precipitated at low temperatures with good reversibility in and out of a specific unique liquid medium which is an organic solvent, e.g., acetonitrile, containing an ionic compound of a first halogen, e.g., quaternary ammonium halides, and an elementary form of a second halogen each in a specified concentration, of which at least either one of the first and second halogens is iodine. Namely, a gold-containing waste material is contacted at a high temperature with the liquid medium to have the gold value dissolved therein and the gold-containing solution is then cooled to a low temperature so that the gold value can be recovered in the form of precipitates in a high purity.
