  • Publication number: 20020033887
Abstract: A CCD converts an optical image of an object formed on its image sensing surface into electrical charges, and sequentially outputs the electrical charges of all of the light receiving pixels in one scanning operation in non-interlaced form. The outputs from the CCD are converted to the digital image signals by an analog-digital converter. A camera signal processing unit processes the digital image signals, thereby generating two streams of signals; one is digital video signals SV1 which are standard digital video signals in interlaced form, and the other is signals SV2 which are not outputted as the digital video signals SV1 out of the digital image signals of all of the light receiving pixels. These two streams of signals, SV1 and SV2, are processed differently depending upon a mode selected by a switch.

  • Patent number: 6078615
Abstract: An encoding apparatus includes an input section which inputs image data, and a calculating section which calculated DCT coefficients of a predetermined frequency region on the basis of the image data. A decision unit judges a correlation of the image data on the basis of the DCT coefficients calculated by the calculating section, and a transforming section performs an orthogonal transformation to the image data in accordance with an output of the decision unit. An encoding section encodes the image data transformed by the transforming section. Also included is an encoding and decoding apparatus having an input section which inputs information data, and an orthogonal transforming section which performs an orthogonal transforation of the input information data. An encoding section encodes the transformation data transformed by the orthogonal transforming section, and a decoding section decodes the encoding data encoded by the encoding section by using the orthogonal transforming section.

  • Patent number: 5861921
Abstract: There is provided code amount control in which information data are input in predetermined units and a code amount is estimated in each of a plurality of stages, including a final stage. A calculation result is obtained based on a target code amount and the estimated code amount, for each stage. A short code amount and an excess code amount are updated based on the calculation result, and quantization parameters used upon encoding are controlled in accordance with the short code amount and the excess code amount obtained at the final estimation stage. Also provided is code amount control for controlling a code amount in units of second blocks, each consisting of a plurality of first blocks, each consisting of a plurality of sample value data, which discriminates quantization parameters which result in a code amount less than a predetermined amount when a second block of data is encoded using the quantization parameters. The discriminated quantization parameters are adjusted on a unit basis of the first block.

  • Patent number: 5444494
Abstract: A video signal recording and reproducing system enables recording and reproducing of a video signal with high quality. The system includes a recording system for recording the video signal on a record medium by a median filter and a reproducing system for reproducing the video signal from the record medium. The recording system separates a brightness signal and a color signal from an interlaced scanning signal. The recording system divides picture elements of each line into two phases by sorting the elements such that an element is put into one phase and the next element into the other. The recording system then carries out two-dimensional subsampling to the brightness signal and the color signal to reduce the amount of data. Then, the recording system compresses and time-division multiplexes the brightness signal and the color signal to provide a video signal to be recorded onto a record medium.
