Patent number: 5033946Abstract: A rotary machine includes a stationary housing having a rotor chamber and a rotor rotatably mounted in the rotor chamber, the inner peripheral surface of the rotor chamber having a central axis which is eccentrically disposed relative to the axis of rotation of the rotor. The housing has generally planar inner end walls having a cylindrical opening through which the rotor shaft extends. A plurality of vanes are slidably mounted in vane slots in the rotor and operable to define variable volume chambers as the rotor rotates and the vanes move generally radially in and out of the vane slots. Back pressure regulating grooves are disposed in the end walls of the housing, the grooves having a central axis coincident with the axis of rotation of the rotor, the grooves being juxtaposed to the vane slots and communicating with the vane slots for regulating the internal back pressure on the vanes in the vane slots.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1989Date of Patent: July 23, 1991Assignee: Eagle Industry Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroshi Sakamaki, Yukio Horikoshi, Kenji Tanzawa

Patent number: 5032070Abstract: A rotary machine includes a housing having a rotor chamber and a rotor rotatably mounted in the rotor chamber. The rotor has longitudinal ends and a plurality of generally radially disposed vane slots extending between the longitudinal ends. A plurality of vanes are slidably mounted in the vane slots and operable to define variable volume chambers as the rotor rotates and the vanes move generally radially in and out of the vane slots. Rings are rotatably mounted on the housing and limiting devices are provided between the rings and the vanes and are operable to limit the extent of outward radial movement of the vanes from their respective vane slots during rotation of the rotor to preclude sliding contact between the vanes and the inner peripheral surface of the housing. Biasing springs on the housing are engageable with the rings and bias the rings in an axial direction toward the longitudinal ends of the rotor to thereby suppress axial oscillation of the rings and stabilize the rotation of the rings.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1989Date of Patent: July 16, 1991Assignee: Eagle Industry Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroshi Sakamaki, Yukio Horikoshi, Takeshi Jinnouchi, Kenji Tanzawa

Patent number: 5030074Abstract: A rotary machine for handling a fluid includes a housing having a rotor chamber and a rotor rotatably mounted in the chamber. The rotor has a plurality of generally radially disposed vane slots, and a plurality of vanes are slidably mounted in the vane slots and operable to define variable volume chambers for the fluid as the rotor rotates and the vanes move generally radially in and out of the vane slots. The vanes have projections projecting from the longitudinal ends thereof, and the housing has annular rings having inner cylindrical surfaces disposed to be engaged by projections. Grooves on the outer surface of the rings are operable to produce a layer of fluid between such outer surface and the housing to thereby minimize the frictional rotational resistance of the rings on the housing, the rings thereby being rotated in approximately synchronization with the rotor.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1989Date of Patent: July 9, 1991Assignee: Eagle Industry Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroshi Sakamaki, Yukio Horikoshi, Takeshi Jinnouchi, Kenji Tanzawa

Patent number: 4681519Abstract: A rotor for a rotary compressor having a metal central portion integral with two opposite end portions that are fiber-reinforced metal matrix composites having a matrix metal common to the central portion. Such rotors may be made by pressing inorganic fibers to form the end portions of the rotor, arranging the end portions in an opposing relationship in a mold to form the central portion between the end portions. Molten metal is placed into the mold such that it infiltrates the porous end portions while forming the central portion. Solidification of the metal forms fiber-reinforced metal-matrix composite end portions integral with the central portion.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1984Date of Patent: July 21, 1987Assignee: Nippon Piston Ring Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroshi Sakamaki, Susumu Sugishita, Yukio Horikoshi

Patent number: 4657493Abstract: An apparatus provided in a rotary compressor comprising an air-bearing room (40) defined between the inner periphery of the center housing (22) and the outer periphery of the rotary sleeve (30) to have an air-bearing effect for floatingly supporting the rotary sleeve rotating with a plurality of vanes. The air-bearing room (40) is supplied with air through an inlet passage (45) and/or a connecting passage (49), if necessary. A buffer chamber (47, 57) is formed in the wall of the center housing (22) and opened to the inner periphery of the center housing (22) through tiny bores (48, 58). The rotary sleeve (30) is pushed back to the center by a buffering action of air in the buffer chamber whenever it is put aside toward the center housing (22), thereby being prevented against a direct contact with the inner periphery of the center housing (22).Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1985Date of Patent: April 14, 1987Assignee: Nippon Piston Ring Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroshi Sakamaki, Yukio Horikoshi, Kikuji Yanagihashi

Patent number: 4657495Abstract: Bearing apparatus for movable vane compressor is provided with a pressure-reducing passage extending from an annular clearance between the inner side surface of the bearing and the side surface of the rotor to the open air or the like, such as the suction-chamber and the suction-working space. Compressed air enters the annular clearance through a gap between the inner side surface of the side housing and the side surface of the rotor from the compression-working space between two adjacent vanes and then runs out through the pressure-reducing passage without pushing the bearing grease from the bearing.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1985Date of Patent: April 14, 1987Assignee: Nippon Piston Ring Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroshi Sakamaki, Susumu Sugishita, Yukio Horikoshi

Patent number: 4649612Abstract: A method of manufacturing a rotor for rotary fluid pumps comprising the steps of assembling a hollow cylindrical body and both side plates to a hollow rotor body, providing the hollow rotor body with a plurality of sockets each receiving a separately fabricated U-shaped vane-groove forming member, and inserting the U-shaped vane-groove forming members into the respective sockets to fix the same to the rotor body by brazing. The U-shaped vane-groove forming member is made from a suitable material as a vane groove itself and sufficiently finished independently from the rotor body.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1985Date of Patent: March 17, 1987Assignees: Nippon Piston Ring Co., Ltd., Kabushiki Kaisha TokiwaseisakushoInventors: Hiroshi Sakamaki, Susumu Sugishita, Yukio Horikoshi, Hiroshi Okamura, Kenji Shimizu
