  • Patent number: 9316898
Abstract: There is provided a projection apparatus including a color synthesis section, a polarization conversion section, and a projection lens. The color synthesis section is configured to combine three-primary color light and emit combined light. The polarization conversion section is disposed on a light-emission side of the color synthesis section, the polarization conversion section being configured to put the color light in the combined light in a non-polarized state uniformly in all directions. The projection lens is configured to emit light provided by the polarization conversion section.

  • Patent number: 7213920
Abstract: According to the present invention, there is provided an image display device including a non-luminous reflection type spatial light modulating element, illuminating system to illuminate the reflection type spatial light modulating element and a projection lens and in which light from a light source (2) illuminates the reflection type spatial light modulating elements (14, 15) via first and second fly-eye integrators (9, 10). An unnecessary part, not modulated, of the light reflected by the reflection spatial light modulating elements (14, 15) and further by a reflector (4) for recycling. Since the fly-eye integrators (9, 10) are displaced in relation to their optical axes, it is possible to utilize the light with an improved efficiency and prevent any nonuniform illumination from taking place.

  • Publication number: 20060017362
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed which minimizes the temperature difference between upper and lower portions of a lamp bulb in an optical unit. A UV-IR cut filter is disposed in a downwardly inclined relationship such that an upper portion thereof is nearer to a discharge lamp than a lower portion thereof so that infrared rays and ultraviolet rays included in light emitted from a lamp bulb and reflected in a forward direction from an upper portion of a reflecting face are reflected toward a lower portion of the reflecting face. As the reflected light from the UV-IR cut filter is illuminated on the lower portion of the reflecting face, the temperature difference between upper and lower portions of the lamp bulb is reduced.
