  • Patent number: 8213284
Abstract: A recording apparatus performs recording on an optical disc recording medium which has a plurality of recording layers and is capable of having data rewritten thereon. The recording apparatus includes recording means for performing data recording on each recording layer of the recording medium and recording controlling means for controlling the recording means so that, among the plurality of recording layers, recording of dummy data is performed preferentially starting from a recording layer intended for the final user data recording operation.

  • Patent number: 7940636
Abstract: A recording medium of the recordable type in the form of a multi-layer disc or the like which is improved in compatibility and feasibility in use and a recording apparatus and a recording method ready for the recording medium are disclosed. A region for recording interlayer folding back position information is set on the recording medium (for example, “End sector number in Layer 0” or a session item type 3). In response to a fact that recording on a certain recording layer reaches a maximum recording range or that data recording advances from a certain recording layer to a next recording layer, interlayer folding back position information is recorded on the recording medium. This signifies that such recording is performed when advancement of the data recording to another recording layer is performed at a stage prior to disc closing or session closing or when it is predicted that such advancement of the data recording occurs soon.

  • Patent number: 7539114
Abstract: User data is recorded in succession to the recording of a guard block on a next recording layer when the user data is recorded with a recording position shifted from one recording layer to the next recording layer. If a record start position of the user data is learned beforehand in the next recording layer, the guard block is formed on the next recording layer prior to the recording of the user data. In other words, when recording layer shifting is performed, an area ahead of the recording position of the user data becomes the guard block so that a replay signal for use in a pre-replay process is obtained beforehand in the replaying of the user data.

  • Patent number: 7417928
Abstract: The requested data is read from a DVD disk by interruption in ST46. Then, the ID information for indicating the leading end of the data, and the result of the identification by use of the EDC for indicating whether or not the data is correct are stored in ST47. When the disk is identified as a DVD-video disk and the flag is set in ST 48, and also when the number of times N of retries is identified as being larger than NR in ST50 and the read data is not identified as control data in ST51, data transmission is performed. When no flag is set, the disk identification is performed based on whether or not the data at a predetermined position on the logical format has predetermined data in ST49. When it is identified that an error has been detected in ST52 and also when the number of times N of retries becomes larger than NS in ST53, the occurrence of an error is announced.

  • Patent number: 7319651
Abstract: The amount of light reflected from a disk is detected, and it is determined according to the amount of reflected light whether the disk is a recordable disk or a rewritable disk. The disk is controlled according to the result of determination such that it is rotated at a constant angular velocity (CAV) or at a constant linear velocity (CLV) and recording is executed. Further, rotation driving control of the disk is selected according to factors other than the type of the disk, such as according to whether random recording is allowed or not, according to a recording state in the disk, according to whether an alternative area is provided or not, according to a recording start position, or according to whether initialization is required or not. CLV control or CAV control is appropriately selected for a disk at recording to suppress a reduction in accessibility and a reduction in data transmission rate.

  • Patent number: 7177251
Abstract: The present invention aims to enable revision of additional information buried in contents data with less burden on hardware. For this purpose, a predetermined amount of inputted contents data is temporarily stored in buffer means, the additional information buried in the contents data being detected from the contents data temporarily stored in the buffer means, the contents of the detected additional information being estimated, the contents data being made to be recorded in a predetermined medium when estimated that the contents data can be recorded, and the contents data being made not to be recorded in the medium when estimated that the contents data must not be recorded. In addition, when estimated that revision of the additional information is necessary, the relevant part of data stored in the buffer means is revised while it is being stored in the buffer means.

  • Patent number: 7085214
Abstract: Data is recorded on packet basis to a track of an optical recording medium and the data is pseudo-erased by erasing contents information of the track having the data. Information indicating the end position of the packet containing the data is recorded on the optical recording medium and a new data is recorded to the track where the data has been pseudo-erased in accordance with the information indicating the end position of the packet.
