  • Patent number: 7481454
Abstract: An air bag apparatus is installed along the front-to-rear axis of the interior-facing side roof rail of a vehicle. The air bag has an air bag body, an inflator and a fluid body supply device. The air bag body has a plurality of inflatable chambers with at least one specific chamber and at least one general chamber. When in the deployed state, the specific chamber is positioned adjacent a structural pillar member of a vehicle side portion of the vehicle body. When in the deployed state the general chamber is located adjacent the vehicle side portion. In use, the inflator supplies a high-pressure fluid to the air bag body thereby inflating each of the chambers and the fluid supply delay device selectively delays the high-pressure fluid to the specific chamber relative to the general chamber.

  • Patent number: 7314229
Abstract: An occupant restriction device includes a shock absorbing body that is installed in a lower portion of a dashboard of a vehicle in front of an occupant's seat and arranged to be generally in front of left and right kneecaps of an occupant when the occupant sits on the occupant seat. The occupant restriction device is configured such that a rigidity of a transverse center portion of the shock absorbing body is higher than a rigidity of left and right side portions of the shock absorbing body. As a result, when the vehicle undergoes an offset collision or other collision in which the occupant's legs form a closed leg sitting posture, the highly rigid transverse center portion is configured to hold the occupant's kneecaps moderately open to prevent the occupant's legs from forming the closed leg sitting posture. Thus, the occupant restriction device can provide a stable shock alleviation effect.

  • Patent number: 6561539
Abstract: In an airbag 3, a rear end 6a of a partitioning wall cloth 6 is positioned in the vicinity of the shoulder S of a vehicle occupant M, and the partitioning wall cloth 6 extends forward at a more downward angle &thgr;1 than a perpendicular direction Y to the longitudinal direction of an inflator 4. As the partitioning wall cloth 6 is formed downwardly, the volume of a chest protecting portion A is small, so that a speed of the chest protecting portion A spread forward by gas G is increased.

  • Patent number: 6206411
Abstract: A vehicle occupant protecting apparatus at a time of lateral collision of an automobile is structured wherein, since a bottom face (13) of an airbag (8) contacts with an upper face (5) of an armrest (6), an upward reaction force F from the upper face (5) of the armrest (6) can act on the airbag (8) which has been pressed downward during development, whereby a developing speed of the airbag (8) can be improved.

  • Patent number: 6155593
Abstract: An air bag apparatus for a seat of a vehicle according to the present invention has a side bracket disposed in the outer portion of a seat back in the widthwise direction of the vehicle and secured to a seat back frame and an air bag module attached to the side bracket. The seat back has a side pad portion in the outer portion in the widthwise direction of the vehicle, while the air bag module has an inflator for generating gas and an air bag body arranged to be unfolded in the forward direction by the gas generated by the inflator. The air bag module is structured to allow deformation of the side pad portion depressed by a person who sits on the seat. Therefore, even if the side pad portion of the seat back is pressed rearwards, satisfactory rearward deformation of the side bracket portion is permitted. Thus, the cushioning characteristic of the side pad portion is not inhibited and comfort sitting feeling can be obtained.

  • Patent number: 5845932
Abstract: An air bag apparatus for a vehicle according to the present invention includes a bracket secured to an arbitrary position of the vehicle and an air bag module attached to the bracket. The air bag module has a base attached to the bracket, an inflator for generating gas, an air bag body which is unfolded with gas generated by the inflator and a guide for restricting a direction in which the air bag body is unfolded. The base and the guide are individual elements arranged to be assembled to create a space. The base and the guide are arranged to be assembled so as to be disposed in the space created by the base and the guide. Therefore, the guide can be disposed in a limited space in the air bag module without obstructing the other units. Moreover, the guide is able to appropriately guide the direction in which the air bag body is unfolded.
